Lin Qiaozhi
Lin Qiaozhi
(December 23, 1901 - April 22, 1983), a physician. She has contributed to the research of fetal intrauterine respiration, female pelvic diseases, gynecological tumors, hemolytic disease of the newborn, and is one of the main pioneers and founders of Chinese obstetrics and gynecology.
She is the first Chinese director of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Peking Union Medical College Hospital and the only member (academician) of the first Chinese Academy of Sciences. Although she never married in her life, she delivered more than 50000 babies in person. She is honored as "mother of 10000 babies", "angel of life" and "Holy Mother of Chinese medicine". She is also known as "Nanliang Beilin" together with Liang Yiwen.

On December 23, 1901 (the 27th year of Guangxu), Lin Qiaozhi was born into a teacher's family in Gulangyu, Siming County, Fujian Province.
In 1908, Lin Qiaozhi went to Mongolia school (women's primary school), and then studied in Gulangyu Huairen school (Gulangyu women's high school). In 1913, she was promoted to Gulangyu higher women's normal school. He graduated from Xiamen women's Normal University in 1919 and stayed in school to teach.
In 1921, Peking Union Medical College (now Peking Union Medical College) was completed, and Lin Qiaozhi was admitted to the school.
In 1929, she graduated from Peking Union Medical University and received a doctor's degree. She was employed as a doctor of Obstetrics and gynecology in Peking Union Medical University. She was the first Chinese female doctor who graduated from Peking Union Medical University and was the only winner of the first "Wenhai" scholarship.

During the period of studying abroad, I visited Cambridge University and Newham University, and studied and practiced in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Maryland Medical College for two months. She spent almost all her time outside her laboratory work, studying in the library with rich materials, and took out a sandwich bread at noon to satisfy her hunger. In addition, he also visited various hospitals and scientific research institutions in London, such as chase gynecology hospital, London maternal and child hospital, London maternal and child hospital, etc. She visited radium radiotherapy center station and applied advanced science and technology to medical equipment, which inspired her research ideas and laid the foundation for her research and treatment of choriocarcinoma. Finally, she went to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Royal College of medicine to carry out the research on intrauterine respiration in the laboratory of her teacher. Her research results were recommended to the British Conference on obstetrics and Gynecology held in Birmingham and received high praise.
In 1940, Lin Qiaozhi was employed by the United States as a member of the "natural science honor committee". He returned to China in the same year and was soon promoted to director of Obstetrics and Gynecology, becoming the first Chinese female director of the hospital.
At the end of 1941, Peking Union Medical College Hospital was occupied by the Japanese because of the Pacific War. She was expelled from the hospital with all the medical staff. Because of the war, her medical scientific research was terminated for nearly 10 years.
In 1942, she opened a private clinic in dongtangzi Hutong, Beijing. In order to reduce the burden of patients, she took the initiative to reduce the registration fee and medical expenses for poor patients. Before long, he served as the director of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Zhonghe hospital (formerly known as central hospital, now Peking University People's Hospital).
In 1946, he was employed as the director of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Peking University Medical College. In the same year, Li zongen, a medical educator, was ordered to resume the Union Medical College Hospital. She repeatedly invited her to return to the Union Medical College. After much consideration, she resigned as the director of the two hospitals, stopped the practice of the clinic, and returned to the Union Medical College Hospital in 1948. At the same time, she transferred her students back to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Union Medical College Hospital, where she worked until her death.
In 1955, Lin Qiaozhi was elected as the only female member of the first Chinese Academy of Sciences and was appointed Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.
In June 1956, Beijing obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, the first obstetrics and gynecology hospital in China, was built, with Lin Qiaozhi as the first president.
At the beginning of the cultural revolution, with the "nationalization" of Xiehe, a vigorous "transformation" movement began. Lin Qiaozhi was designated as the "key reform target" and "reactionary academic authority", and was assigned to the ward as a nurse, cleaning the bedpan and pouring the spittoon After all, she has not left Xiehe. She said that she is very lucky. After the end of the cultural revolution, Lin Qiaozhi was nearly 80 years old and gradually weakened.
From 1972 to 1974, he visited the United States, Canada, Switzerland, France and other countries for academic exchanges.

In December 1978, Lin Qiaozhi and Chu Tunan led a Chinese people's friendship delegation to visit four Western European countries and returned to China in the UK due to ischemic cerebrovascular disease. In the capital hospital, after examination, she was diagnosed with hypertension, arteriosclerosis, cerebral thrombosis, heart disease. During her illness, she began to write books on gynecological oncology in her wheelchair and bed. Four years later, her 500000 word monograph gynecological oncology was completed.
On December 2, 1980, he was taken to the hospital with his condition aggravated. Although she was dissuaded by her relatives and friends, she persisted in her work. At this time, she was no longer a resident, but she asked the doctors and nurses on duty to inform her as soon as the patient had problems, even in the middle of the night. Even delivered six babies the day before he died.
In the spring of 1983, Lin Qiaozhi's condition deteriorated and she fell into a coma. She always called out intermittently: "hurry up! Come on! Get the forceps! Forceps... " At this time, the nurse would grab a thing and put it in her hand to comfort her. On April 22 of the same year, Lin Qiaozhi died in Union Medical College Hospital. In the will, she donated 30000 yuan of her life savings to the hospital nursery and scattered her ashes in the sea of her hometown Gulangyu.

Lin Qiaozhi once led medical staff to go deep into urban and rural areas to investigate the diseases of women and children, and edited family health consultant, family parenting encyclopedia and other books.
