He was born in Yixiang, Suzhou on July 15, 1902. In 1907, he learned to sing Kunqu Opera with his father Yu Zonghai. In 1910, he studied in Zhang Luqian's private school. In 1912, he began to learn to play flute.

In 1915, he formally took Lu Lianfu as his teacher and studied Chinese painting. In the same year, Zhang Zidong gave birth to his mother and performed Kunqu Opera in series. Yu Zhenfei played the role of Li Ling in the Kunqu Opera Wangxiang, which was taught by the artist Shen Xiqing of Quanfu class. After the performance, Yu Zonghai invited Quan fu class artist Shen Yuequan to talk and teach Yu Zhenfei. In 1917, when Yu Zonghai was making music for his students, Yu Zhenfei played the flute for him. Because Yu Zonghai was suffering from eye disease, he went out to teach music to Yu Zhenfei instead. In 1920, Yu Zhenfei went to the Shanghai Office of Zhengzhou Yufeng yarn mill, which was run by mu Ouchu in Shanghai, to teach mu Ouchu singing every afternoon.

In the spring of 1921, introduced by Xie Shengzu, he studied Laosheng's plays sang Yuan Hui and San Niang Jiao Zi from Peking Opera actor Li Zhixian. In the autumn of the same year, Suzhou Kunqu Opera Training Institute was established. Entrusted by his father and Suzhou opera friends, mu Ouchu was invited to participate in the preparatory work of the Institute. In the winter of this year, Mu raised money for the school and decided to perform three Kunqu operas in Shanghai. On January 28, 1922, mu Ouchu organized and established the "Su society" of Kunqu Opera. Yu Zhenfei was appointed director of the music department. From February 14 to 16, mu Ouchu held a benefit performance in Shanghai summer peak theater in the name of Kunqu Opera preservation society. Yu Zhenfei performed Kunqu Opera "garden dream", "broken bridge" and "kneeling pool", which was his first appearance on the Shanghai stage. In the same year, he took part in the "elegant song collection" at the box office of Peking Opera, learned Peking Opera Xiaosheng from Peking Opera artist Jiang Yanxiang, and studied such operas as "horse peddler", "Qunying Hui", "Jiulongshan", "eight hammers", "Yuanmen shooting halberd", "baimenlou", "Luocheng calling Guan", "Da niece Shangfen", "Yumen Guan" and "Xiaogan Tian".

In September 1923, at the appointment of Cheng Yanqiu, he co performed Kunqu Opera "a dream in the garden" in the first stage of Dangui. At the beginning of 1924, after watching Mei Lanfang's performance of "odd double meeting", he rehearsed "odd double meeting" under the guidance of Jiang Yanxiang. Later, he performed in the disaster relief performance. Yu Zhenfei played Zhao Chong in the play, which was his first stage performance of Peking Opera. From May 23 to 25, students of Suzhou Kunju Opera Training Institute performed in Shanghai, Suzhou and Shanghai Yu Zhenfei and Xiang Xinwu co starred in qintiao, Weng ruiwu in burying jade, Xie Shengzu in Duanqiao, and Zhang Zidong in lianhuanji Xiaoyan and sancuo.

In the spring of 1925, at the request of Qu you, he accompanied the students of Suzhou Kun Opera School to perform in Hangzhou, and performed the Kun Opera qintiao and kneeling pool on the stage. In May, he co performed with Cheng Yanqiu in Shanghai, performing such Peking Opera operas as "odd double meeting", "yutangchun" and "Hongfu biography". In the spring of 1926, he co performed with Zhu Chuanming in Kun Opera kneeling pool in a benefit performance held by the Ministry of industry.

In 1927, because Mu Ou first went to Nanjing to take office, Yu Zhenfei lost his job and made a living teaching music. In the autumn of that year, he, Zhang Yiliang, Wu wuzun, and Shen Jicheng formed Weikun company and founded the new Yuefu Kun Opera Troupe, which was mainly composed of graduates from the Kun Opera School. He was responsible for backstage rehearsal, selection of items, and role assignment. Since then, he has organized and adapted Changsheng palace, Peony Pavilion, feicuiyuan, Zhuangyuan seal, xiuruji, Lianhuan, Kunshan and tieguantu《 There are many Kunqu operas, such as lion roar, Yizhu, Shuihu, Fengzheng, bailuoshan, Diao Liushi, etc. In December, he and Yuan Hanyun performed the Peking Opera "the meeting of heroes" in summer peak cinema as Zhou Yu.

In April 1928, the new Yuefu Kun Opera Troupe was dissolved due to loss. In July, he and my wife Lu Peizhen co performed the Kunqu Opera "lianhuanji · Xiaoyan" at the volunteer group Entertainment Conference held in the French park. In 1930, under the recommendation of Cheng Yanqiu, Cheng Jixian, a Peking Opera student, became a teacher and officially went to the sea. In July 1931, he took part in Cheng Yanqiu's public performance of Minghe society and performed Peking Opera such as jade lion pendant and Yuanmen shooting halberd. Later, he left Minghe society and returned to Shanghai because of the threat of Tianjin hooligan Pan Qi. In August, he was invited by Du Xinqu to teach Jingkun art at Jinan University. In 1932, he was invited to make music for Mei Lanfang, and taught Kunju Opera Renzi.

From February 23 to 24, 1934, he co performed with Mei Lanfang in the Kunqu Opera "a dream in the garden", "broken bridge" and "Yaotai". In March, he was invited to Wuhan to perform with Zhang Yiyun. In the summer, at the invitation of Cheng Yanqiu, he resigned his position as a lecturer and joined Minghe club again. While performing, he learned from Cheng Jixian. On September 24, he performed in Zhonghe theater, Beijing Opera "drinking supervision order", his first performance after his second "going to the sea". In October, he participated in the rehearsal of Cheng Pai's new play "a dream of spring girls" and added Kun Opera figures to the play.

In January 1935, he took part in the compulsory public performance of Beijing Liyuan Association and played Zhou Yu in the Peking Opera "dragon and Phoenix show". Since December 11, he has returned to Shanghai with Cheng Yanqiu troupe, cooperated with Cheng Yanqiu and Tan Fuying, and performed "yutangchun", "jade hairpin", "zhuzhuzhuji", "Sibang Tanmu", "Yuejiazhuang", "horse peddler", "liuyingchun", "Hongfu Zhuan", "qingshuangjian", "Fengliu stick", "Jinsuo Ji", "yubeiting", "mukezhai", "jiedongfeng" and "yushidiao" in Golden Grand Theater《 Peking Opera plays such as huafangyuan, yuanyangzhong, shisanmei, Wenji Guihan, santanghuishen, chunguimeng, Shen Yunying, yubaochuan, qianwenjuan, and barren mountain tears.

From March 20 to April 10, 1937, Cheng's troupe performed Peking Opera repertoire such as "santanghuishen", "biyuzan", "jinsuoji", "Wang Baochuan", "drinking supervision order", "tears of barren mountain", "hongluanxi", "Xiaomei", "sirang Tanmu", "Nie yinniang", "qintiao", "baoliandeng", "chunguimeng", "feigongren" and "qishuanghui" in Shanghai Golden theater. From the middle of April to the end of May, he returned to Beijing with the group to perform in France, focusing on a number of Kunqu operas such as Cihu, Duanqiao, qintiao, youyuanjingmeng and Cangzhou. On June 4, Cheng troupe premiered Kunqu Opera "Cihu" in Xinxin Grand Theater. In the "Fengong" scene, Yu Zhenfei played Chongzhen as an official, and after the performance, he played the flute for Cheng Yanqiu.

In 1938, Qiu Sheng society broke away from Cheng Yanqiu. In 1939, at the appointment of Nan Tiesheng, a danjiao actor in Hankou, he performed such Peking Opera plays as "yutangchun", "Chunqiu Pei", "fenghuanchao", "shisanmei", "longfengchengxiang", "yideyuan", "qishuanghui", "shengshengshenghen", "hongzongliema" in Beijing Jixiang theater and Chang'an theater.

At the beginning of January 1940, he and Nan Tiesheng and Xun Huisheng performed the Peking Opera "Thirteen sisters" in Chang'an theater. From January 15 to 24, he performed with Xin Yanqiu on the new stage in Shanghai. He successively performed such Peking Opera plays as Hongfu Zhuan, Sibang Tanmu, biyuzan, horse peddler, yingwenjuan, yutangchun, gongyanyuan, Pipa line, wangbaochuan, Huanghelou, qingshuangjian, etc. On February 2, Beijing Opera Yuanmen shooting halberd was performed in a benefit performance to raise funds for the Shanghai Children's education center. On February 4, due to xinyanqiu's illness, he renewed the stage and invited Li Yanxiu to perform on his behalf. Yu Zhensheng stayed for a sequel because his contract was not fulfilled, but did not share the same stage with Li Yanxiu. From February 13 to 20, Yu Zhenfei invited the "biography" generation of Kunqu Opera actors to perform Kunqu Opera on the updated stage. The repertoire includes kneeling pool, lianhuanji · Xiaoyan, qintiao, Xiaoyan · Jingbian, horse peddling, etc. From October 16 to 29, he and Xin Yanqiu, who recovered from illness, performed Peking Opera such as biyuzan, Hongfu Zhuan, Sibang Tanmu, horse peddler, jiedongfeng, wangbaochuan, qingshuangjian and Shuangjiao Qiyuan in Golden Grand Theater. On October 30, he co starred in Kun Opera kneeling pool with Zhu Chuanming and Zheng Chuanjian. In this year, Yu Zhensheng was employed as the basic actor of Dalai company.

From October 5 to November 2, 1941, he cooperated with Cheng Yanqiu again to perform the Beijing Opera "odd double meeting" and "the story of Hongfu" at the Golden Grand Theater. Since November 28, he has performed with Hou Yulan, Xi Xiaobo, Gao Shenglin, Cheng Jixian, furongcao, etc. in the golden theater, such as "odd double meeting", "yutangchun", "red maned horse", "longfengchengxiang", "Sibang Tanmu", "hongniguan", "Chunqiu Pei", "Ganlu Temple", "Yang Jiajiang" and "suwu shepherd".
