Hou Baolin
Hou Baolin (November 29, 1917 - February 4, 1993), male, Manchu, born in Tianjin on November 29, 1917, is a famous cross talk artist and language master in China. Member of China Democratic League.
Mr. Hou Baolin is a creative master in the field of crosstalk. He is good at imitating all kinds of dialects, city sounds and drama performances. He said that crosstalk, with clear language, natural action, free and easy manner, combines Zhuang with harmony, turns elegance into vulgarity, and has unique artistic charm. He paid attention to the knowledge, interest and criticism of cross talk, which played a role in the development of cross talk art.
In his long 60 years of artistic career, he devoted himself to the research and development of crosstalk art and devoted his whole life to the cause of crosstalk. Hou Baolin's lifelong goal is to "bring laughter and joy to the people". Therefore, he is respected and loved by the people of all ethnic groups. Under his leadership and promotion, crosstalk art has really entered into thousands of families and reached an eye-catching artistic peak.
In addition to creating and performing a large number of famous cross talk passages, Hou Baolin also made a theoretical study on the origin, principles, laws and artistic skills of cross talk and quyi. He wrote and cooperated with others to write such monographs as crosstalk performing art, introduction to quyi, tracing the source of crosstalk, drama talks, drunkenness, etc.
He also pays attention to the cultivation of young actors, including Ma Ji, Hao Aimin, Shi Shengjie, etc.
At 14:42 on February 4, 1993, Hou Baolin died of illness in Beijing at the age of 76.

Early experience
Hou Baolin, male, of Manchu nationality, was born in Tianjin on November 29, 1917. His family was not rich. When he was 5 years old, he was brought to Beijing by his relatives and sent to a family with the surname Hou as his adopted son. His adopted father was a cook, but his income was very low. Therefore, young Hou Baolin realized the hardships of society and the warmth of human relations very early.
In 1925, he studied in the 27th Primary School of Peking City for three months.
From 1926 to 1928, because his adoptive father lost his job, Hou Baolin was forced to help his family to make a living by collecting coal, selling newspapers, pulling water carts, porridge, etc.
At the age of 12, Hou Baolin began to study art, first Peking Opera, and later changed to crosstalk because of his love for crosstalk. Chang Baochen and Zhu kuoquan served as teachers. They once performed in the area of Tianqiao and Gulou in Beijing. Like many folk artists in the old society, they used to earn money and support their families.
In 1929, he was an apprentice in a small workshop for making leg bands. Later, he learned Peking Opera from Yan Zefu. Three months later, she began to perform on the street. In the meantime, master took a class with the famous artist "yunlifei" (baibaoshan) in the market of Tianqiao triangle to sell his art. During the day, Hou Baolin went to the overpass with his master to perform Peking Opera and funny Erhuang between his master and "yunlifei". At night, he carried his disabled elder martial brother and his master to the brothel to sing.
In 1930, he ran away because he couldn't bear the abuse of his master and elder martial brother. Later, he was sent back to his father by his adoptive father and continued to perform on the overpass.
In 1932, Zhang's foster mother died. The family moved to 21 fushouli. Master's family left Beijing to perform in Taiyuan. Hou Baolin left his division and went home. He was driven out of fushouli No. 21 hospital because he was in arrears with the rent. Hou Baolin had to borrow the headmaster Li Sijia at the second gate of South xiawazi Road, beiluogu lane.
Acting experience
In 1933, 16-year-old Hou Baolin sang Beijing Opera in Ma Shaozhen's troupe at Xidan shopping mall. Adjacent to the famous crosstalk artists such as Gao Deming, Zhu kuoquan and Tang Jincheng, listening to crosstalk has become Hou Baolin's only concern when he sings Beijing opera. By chance, he began to perform crosstalk alone and took crosstalk artist Zhu kuoquan as his teacher. Since then, Hou Baolin and crosstalk have formed an indissoluble bond.
In 1934, because of singing Beijing Opera and talking about cross talk, the leader of the class was not allowed to do so, so he was forced to leave Xidan shopping mall and return to Tianqiao to sing Beijing Opera with yunlifei.
In 1935, he abandoned the land for performing arts in drum tower market, and later returned to Xidan shopping mall to sing funny Erhuang.
In 1936, he joined Zhou Yukui and Liu Xingmin in Xidan shopping mall to sing funny Erhuang. When you have time, you can go near the crosstalk venue and listen to the crosstalk talks of Gao Deming, Zhu kuoquan, Zhang jieyao, Tang Jincheng, Hua Ziyuan and others, especially the stand up crosstalk.
In 1937, he went to Dong'an Market to sing funny Erhuang. Master Chang Baochen is lying on his back beside the gate of the medical college in Beiyin alley. After several years of hard work, Hou Baolin's crosstalk has finally become the "big axis" of all kinds of juggling. On July 7, 1937, the Lugouqiao Incident broke out. Hou Baolin cooperated with Guo qiru to perform in Beijing and Tianjin. His art became more mature and famous. During the Anti Japanese War, the Japanese army invaded Beijing, causing social unrest and the depression of entertainment industry. In 1939, he began to give praise to Master Zhu kuoquan and performed cross talk for the first time in Tianqiao Xinmin tea house. Later, Mr. Zhu and his younger martial brother Li Baoqi went to the North Hall of Xidan shopping mall to perform with Gao Deguang, Gao Deliang, Zhang Shaotang and Dai Shaofu.
In early June 1940, at the invitation of Tianjin yanle theater, Hou Baolin signed a contract with his martial uncle Guo qiru to perform in Tianjin. Hou Baolin became famous for his role in Peking Opera. At that time, the newspaper praised him as "the first person in cross talk in terms of singing skills, and PI Huang, a famous actor, was the most divine.". I met Wang Yalan, a Peking Opera actor.

In 1944, the radio station once conducted a series broadcast in Tianjin and Beijing (that is, two actors broadcast simultaneously in Tianjin and Beijing respectively through radio), and said "witty talk" with Zhang Shouchen and Zhang. Later, he and a college student named Zhao Ming (Guangyu) organized the Beijing Art drama club to perform the drama "love heaven, blood and tears", "Shanghai prosperous dream", "modern lady", "Liang Shangjun", etc.
In 1945, he performed in Qunying theater in Tianjin. In May, he was invited back to Peking Shanghai Entertainment Club (north of the west gate of Dong'an Market on Wangfujing Street) to perform as the "grand axis". Actors on the same stage include Shi Wenxiu (stage name Hua Xiaobao), Wang Peichen, Xie Ruizhi, Lian youru, etc. In August, Japan surrendered and returned to Tianjin Grand View Garden for another month. After liberation
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Hou Baolin was even more young in art and soon became a well-known art master at home and abroad. After that, he was determined to reform crosstalk. On the one hand, he modified and processed some traditional crosstalk, on the other hand, he created some new crosstalk reflecting real life, such as marriage and superstition, Yiguandao, etc.
