Life of the characters
Xie Jin has a strong interest in opera since childhood. He spent his childhood in his hometown and went to primary school for one year. In the 1930s, he moved to Shanghai with his parents and continued to study in primary school. During his stay in Shanghai, his obsession with opera turned to movies.
In 1938, Xie Jin went to Hong Kong to study in middle school. In 1939, Xie Jin returned to Shanghai and successively enrolled in the First Affiliated Middle School of East China Normal University and Jishan middle school. In his spare time, he studied in Huaguang drama academy and Venus film training class, and participated in student drama activities supported by actors and others, playing Yue Yun in the multi act drama Yue Yun.
When he graduated from high school in 1941, he firmly applied for drama school. Despite his parents' strong opposition, Xie Jin went to Sichuan without hesitation and was admitted to Sichuan Jiang'an national drama academy. He was taught and cultivated by Cao Yu, Jiao Juyin, Ma Yanxiang and other teachers.
In 1943, Xie Jin voluntarily dropped out of school, followed Ma Yanxiang, Hong Shen and Jiao Juyin to work in Chongqing China Youth Drama Club, and worked as a dramatist, a field reporter and an actor in plays such as youth tour. In 1947, he returned to Nanjing National Academy of drama. In 1948, he graduated from the director department of Nanjing National Academy of drama; in the same year, he joined Datong film company as deputy director.

Personal life
Xie Jin's father is an accountant in Hong Kong. In 1942, 19-year-old Xie Jin came to Chongqing from Shanghai, where he met Xu Dawen, who was studying in Jiang'an women's middle school. In the autumn of 1946, Xie Jin and Xu Dawen were married in Shanghai, which was witnessed by Hong Shen.
Xie Jin has four children, three men and one woman. Unfortunately, he has two sons with mental retardation. In 1949, Xu Dawen gave birth to her eldest son, Xie Yan. Xie Jiaqing, the youngest son of Xie Jin and Xu Dawen, is a disabled person with mental retardation. On the afternoon of August 23, 2008, Xie Yan, the eldest son of Xie Jin, died of lung cancer at the age of 59.
