Character experience
Born in Shangbu village, longfu Town, Liuyang City, Changsha City, Hunan Province on October 8, 1947. In 1962, he entered Liuyang No.1 middle school. In 1965, he was admitted to the Department of chemistry of Peking University. in 1970, he stayed in Peking University to teach. in 1978, he was admitted to the Department of chemistry, Peking University as a postgraduate majoring in polymer chemistry. In January 1980, he was sent to the Department of polymer science and engineering, University of Massachusetts. in September 1981, he graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a master's degree. in February 1983, he graduated from the University of Massachusetts and obtained a doctor's degree. After that, he returned to Peking University to teach. He successively served as associate professor (promoted in 1986), Professor (promoted in 1990), director of Department of polymer science and engineering, School of chemistry, Peking University, director of Institute of polymer science, executive vice president of Graduate School of Peking University and deputy dean of Peking University. In 1999, he was elected academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. from June 2001 to July 2004, he served as the director of the office of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, director and director of the graduate work office (Department of degree management and graduate education) of the Ministry of education; he also served as the director of the degree and graduate education development center of the Ministry of education, director of the inter ministerial Coordination Group Office of the "211 Project" and director of the "985 Project" Office of the Ministry of finance of the Ministry of education. from July 2004 to November 2008, he was a member of the Standing Committee of the Party committee and President of Jilin University. from November 14, 2008 to March 22, 2013, he was a member of the Standing Committee of the Party committee and President of Peking University. in March 2013, he was elected to the Standing Committee of the 12th National People's Congress. on March 22, 2013, he no longer held the post of president of Peking University due to his age. on August 14, 2015, at the 48th Council meeting of the International Federation of pure and Applied Chemistry held in Pusan, South Korea, Zhou Qifeng was elected vice president of the Federation by a high vote. in January 2016, Zhou Qifeng officially assumed the post of vice president of the International Federation of pure and applied chemistry, with a term of office from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2017. According to the IUPAC constitution, the term of office of the vice chairman is two years, and after two years, he will be automatically promoted to the chairman for two years (from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2020).
Main achievements
Achievements in scientific research
Zhou Qifeng put forward the concept of chitin liquid crystal polymer and proved it from the aspects of chemical synthesis and physical properties. Chitin liquid crystalline polymer is a new type of polymer material. Its molecular weight and molecular structure can be controlled by living radical polymerization. The adjustable molecular chain rigidity, unique phase structure and properties, and wide temperature range of stable liquid crystalline phase constitute its properties. Other contributions include the study of substituent effect of liquid crystal polymers, the discovery of the principle that metastable liquid crystal polymers can be transformed into thermodynamically stable liquid crystal polymers by copolymerization or increasing molecular weight, and the discovery of the first synthetic thermotropic liquid crystal polymers. according to the website of Jilin University in January 2020, Zhou Qifeng has published more than 200 academic papers; academic works: liquid crystal polymers (Zhou Qifeng, Wang Xinjiu, Science Press, 1994); polymer chemistry (Zhou Qifeng, Hu Hanjie, chemical industry press, 2001); liquid crystalline polymers (Xin Jiu Wang, Qi Feng Zhou, world scientific, Singapore, 2004), contemporary topics in advanced polymers science and Technology (Zhou Qifeng, Cheng zhengdi, Peking University Press, 2004), high temperature resistant polymers and composites (Zhou Qifeng, fan Xinghe, Xie Xiaofeng, chemical industry press, 2004), and applied for many invention patents.
