Market economics
In March 2005, Wu Jinglian was awarded the outstanding contribution award of Chinese economics for the following reasons:
Wu Jinglian is one of the most influential economists in contemporary China. He has made many contributions to the theoretical development of Chinese economics and the formulation of economic and social policies
Wu Jinglian has always clearly adhered to the market-oriented reform proposition. Working with economists such as Liu Guoguang, Dong Furen and Zhao Renwei, he founded the discipline of comparative institutional analysis in China in the early 1980s.
Using the research results of this subject, Wu Jinglian demonstrated the rationality and inevitability of establishing a socialist market economy in China by analyzing and comparing the transaction costs of the two resource allocation modes of planning and market. In his paper on planning and market as a way of resource allocation (1991), he pointed out that modern market economy without exception is a market economy with macroeconomic management, or "mixed economy". This kind of economy is based on the allocation of market resources. The government and other public institutions correct the market failure and optimize the allocation of resources through their own adjustment and guidance.
In July 1984, Wu Jinglian participated in the writing of the opinion on re exploration of China's commodity economy under the socialist system, which was led by Ma Hong. It affirmed the positive role of commodity economy in the development of socialist economy, corrected its name, obtained the approval of the leading comrades of the Central Committee, and made contributions to the establishment of the reform goal of socialist commodity economy at the Third Plenary Session of the 12th CPC Central Committee.
In April 1992, Wu Jinglian proposed to the CPC Central Committee that the socialist market economy should be set as the goal of China's economic reform.
In May 1997, Wu Jinglian's Research Report on "raising the innovation of socialist theory to a new level" and the Research Report on "realizing the strategic restructuring of the state-owned economy" submitted to the Party Central Committee by the research group of the development research center of the State Council under his leadership have made progress in establishing China's basic economic system and the layout of the state-owned economy
