Wang Shi
Wang Shi, male, was born in Liuzhou, Guangxi on January 23, 1951. His native place is Jinzhai, Anhui Province. He graduated from Lanzhou Jiaotong University (formerly Lanzhou Railway Institute) in water supply and drainage. He is the founder of Vanke Enterprise Co., Ltd., former chairman of the board of directors of Vanke group, and now honorary chairman of the board of directors of Vanke Group. He has also served as executive director of China Real Estate Association and Urban Housing Development Committee of China Real Estate Association Vice chairman, vice president of Shenzhen real estate association, and rotating chairman of Yabuli China Entrepreneurs Forum.
Since 2012, he has studied in Harvard University, Cambridge University, Oxford University and Hebrew University of Israel. He has been a visiting professor in Hong Kong University of science and technology, National University of Singapore and other universities. He is also a member of New York University, Cornell University and HEC Paris high business advisory committee.
In October 2015, he was elected president of the general association of social organizations of Shenzhen.
On June 30, 2017, Vanke held the general meeting of shareholders, and Wang Shi officially resigned as the chairman of the board of directors of Vanke. In order to fully recognize Wang Shi's irreplaceable contribution to Vanke in the past 33 years, the board of directors appointed Wang Shi as the honorary chairman of the board of directors. On July 1, Wang Shi became the chairman of Vanke public welfare foundation.
In August 2018, half a year after resigning as an independent director of BGI, Wang Shi officially announced his appointment as co chairman of BGI's largest share, donghuada holdings.
In August 2018, he was awarded the honorary president of the Asian Rowing Federation for life.
In December 2018, Wang Shi was selected into the list of "40 returnees in 40 years of China's reform and opening up".
On December 18, 2019, he was selected into the list of "70 returnees of 70 years in China".
In November 2019, Wang Shi was elected president of the sixth member congress of the general association of social organizations of Shenzhen. He is currently the chairman and director of Vanke public welfare foundation, Shenzhen International Exchange and cooperation foundation, Shenzhen mammoth public welfare foundation, Shenzhen one foundation public welfare foundation, Shenzhen one earth foundation and Xi'an rural development charity foundation.

Early experience
After graduating from junior high school at the age of 17, Wang Shi didn't go to the countryside to jump in line. Instead, he joined the army according to his parents' wishes. He joined the army in Xuzhou for half a year and in Turpan Basin of Xinjiang for five years (Transportation).
After five years as an auto soldier in Xinjiang, he was demobilized to work as a boiler overhaul workshop worker in the hydropower section of Zhengzhou Railway Bureau. When the Railway Bureau got two places to recommend to go to university, according to Wang Shi's autobiography, "the teachers unanimously recommended Wang Shi to go to Lanzhou Jiaotong University (formerly Lanzhou Railway University) because he was hardworking and liked by people.". But it should be noted that at that time, Wang Shi's father was the deputy director of Liuzhou Railway Bureau.
In 1974, he was over 23 years old and graduated from Lanzhou Jiaotong University majoring in water supply and drainage. During his college years, he insisted on reading political economy. He graduated in 1977 and was assigned to work in the engineering section of Guangzhou Railway Administration. Worked for 3 years as a technician of engineering section, responsible for civil engineering projects along the railway. In the meantime, they got married and had children.
Business experience
In 1980, he took part in a recruitment examination and joined the Foreign Economic Commission of Guangdong Province, responsible for attracting investment. Six years. After that, he went to Shenzhen for development. Wang Shi's first pot of gold was obtained by working as a feed intermediary and reselling corn, which made him earn 3 million yuan. With the money from reselling corn, Wang Shi set up Shenzhen modern science and Education Instrument Exhibition and sales center, operating electrical appliances and instrument products imported from Japan, as well as clothing factory, watch factory, beverage factory, printing factory, etc. In Wang Shi's words, "in addition to pornography, gambling, drugs and arms, Vanke is basically involved."
In 1983, he worked in Shenzhen Special Economic Zone Development Company. In 1984, he set up "exhibition and sales center of modern scientific and educational instruments" as general manager.
In 1988, the company changed its name to "Vanke". Wang Shi was the chairman and general manager of Vanke Enterprise Co., Ltd. in November, Vanke participated in the land auction of Weideng villa in Shenzhen. In December, Vanke issued the first Chinese mainland prospectus, issuing 28 million shares and raising 28 million yuan to start the real estate industry.
At the beginning of 1989, Vanke completed an important step in the history of enterprise development, completed the shareholding transformation, and successfully raised 28 million yuan.
On January 29, 1991, Vanke was officially listed on Shenzhen Stock Exchange. As a result, the great journey of Vanke's trillion yuan market value has been opened. It is worth noting in particular that Vanke was the first to complete the share-holding and listing among many real estate giants.
In 1999, he resigned as the general manager of the company and became the chairman of the company. In the same year, he initiated and organized the "China urban real estate developers cooperation network", and was elected as the first rotating chairman. He is committed to rebuilding the industry order and credibility, and promoting the healthy development of China's urban housing industry.
On June 21, 2017, Vanke announced that 66 year old Wang Shi was retiring.
On June 30, 2017, Vanke held the general meeting of shareholders, and Wang Shi officially resigned as the chairman of Vanke's board of directors, affirming Wang Shi's irreplaceable contribution to Vanke in the past 33 years. The board of directors appointed Wang Shi as the honorary chairman of the board of directors; on July 1, Wang Shi became the chairman of Vanke public welfare foundation.
In January 2018, BGI announced that Wang Shi applied to resign as an independent director of the company for personal reasons, and the board of directors has received his written resignation report.
In April 2018, he served as the co chairman of Yuanda technology group
In August 2018, Wang Shi and Huada group successively disclosed that through the resolution of the board of directors of Huada group, Wang Shi was officially appointed as the co chairman of Huada group. This means that Wang Shi returns to Huada group after leaving for half a year.
In September 2019, with famous entrepreneur Feng Lun and Haiwen, Dean of HSBC Business School of Peking University, together with 100 entrepreneurs and celebrities, Xi'an rural development charity foundation and Rural Development Research Institute of Yan'an University were jointly launched to help rural talent development and build a beautiful new village.
On April 2, 2020, Wang Shi led all Vanke employees to donate 200 million shares to Tsinghua University for the establishment of Vanke School of public health and health of Tsinghua University. According to the market value, the total donation value is estimated to be 5.3 billion yuan. The donation became the largest donation in the history of Chinese universities.
Personal life
Wang Shi, whose father was from Jinzhai, Anhui Province, worked in Liuzhou Railway Bureau after he transferred from the army. His mother is of Xibo nationality and surnamed Shi. She was born in Yixian County, northeast Liaoning Province. Her father was a senior official in the Qing Dynasty, but his father's family property had been squandered. I work in Yixian Telephone Bureau. His mother joined the army in 1945 and met his husband.
Wang Shi's father (five brothers, three of whom joined the Red Army) joined the Fourth Front Army of the Red Army. By the early days of liberation, his parents were cadres of a certain level. Wang Shi has eight brothers and sisters. He is the first boy.
Wang Shi's former father-in-law, Wang Ning, was Deputy Secretary of the Guangdong provincial Party committee and Secretary of the political and Legal Affairs Commission in the 1980s and 1990s.

At 14:37 on May 22, 2003, Wang Shi successfully climbed Mount Everest. At that time, he was 52 years old and became the oldest climber in China. He had been diagnosed by doctors that he might spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair, but he successfully reached 11 peaks in the next four years.
