Detian waterfall

Detian Waterfall is located in Detian Village, Shuolong Town, Daxin County, Chongzuo City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It is located in the upper reaches of Guichun River on the border between China and Vietnam. The waterfall is magnificent and magnificent. On October 17, 2018, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism publicized nine national 5A scenic spots, including Detian Falls.

Geological formation

Detian Waterfall is located in the middle Devonian dolomitic limestone, which is a typical karst waterfall. The upstream is the Guichun River flowing through Vietnam, which is a braided channel with wide and shallow riverbed and many rivers in Xinzhou and Xintan. When approaching Detian Waterfall, the height difference between the river bed at the lower reaches of the waterfall and the river bed at the top of the waterfall is about 6 meters. In order to find the shortest path to the water surface at the lower reaches, the flow of Guichun River takes its way through the dolomite buds in the river bed at the upper part of the waterfall.

Shiya islands such as Putang Island were formed. These islands in the river divide the water into multiple streams, which flow from different parts to the precipice edge of the waterfall, resulting in multiple bundles of waterfalls.

Rock properties

The water-falling cliff of Detian Waterfall lies in dolomitic limestone of Middle Devonian Donggangling Formation, while the bottom of the water-falling is clastic rock strata of lower Devonian gray-green, yellow-green and yellow-brown, such as siltstone, argillaceous siltstone and shale. Clastic rocks such as siltstone, argillaceous siltstone and shale have poor erosion resistance and are easily eroded by water flow, while dolomite has strong erosion resistance, and the slope composed of thick dolomite is stable. Although dolomite can be eroded by water, its dissolution rate is slower, far less destructive than that of water flow. And the solubility of dolomite itself is not very strong.

In addition, dolomite is more resistant to erosion than sandy shale. Waterfall flow erodes the base of the cliff and holes the bottom of the cliff, which leads to the collapse of the cliff. Therefore, the cliff retreats more in the most concentrated part of the water flow (mostly in the middle of the waterfall), and so does Detian Waterfall, such as the formation of the middle part of the fourth-grade waterfall cliff. The same is true for the first waterfall.

Strata characteristics

Located on the West Wing of Sichengling anticline, Guichunhe River is controlled by NW-SE trending structures, and NE-SW trending faults are also active nearby. Under the influence of these faults,

Joint fissures of thick dolomite with gentle occurrence (5-8 degrees) are developed. Joint fissures are used by water flow as its own migration channel, and these fissure surfaces are enlarged to form steep cliffs along the fissure surface. In addition, because there are some layers of fissures in the strata, the upper rock mass is easy to be destroyed, thus forming multi-level cliffs and waterfalls.

At Detian Waterfall, dolomite is situated on the upper part of siltstone with poor erosion resistance and the upstream of the first water crossing. At the same time, the occurrence of the strata is gentle, which makes the flow more stable distribution on the falling cliff surface. It is easy to form waterfalls with relatively wide water surface, such as Detian Waterfall.

Structural characteristics

The natural slope of Guichun River Valley is larger. The flow from Putangdao to Niandi Hydropower Station in the upper reaches of Detian Falls is 18.93 km. The water level falls 190 meters, and the hydraulic slope falls 1%. Small falls are formed in many places of the valley. The river flow is fast, and the erosion of the river bottom is very strong, which is conducive to the formation of waterfalls. Detian Waterfall Cliff was originally a fissure point on the river, and gradually developed into a magnificent waterfall due to the difference of lithology.

Guichun River has a large volume, with an average annual discharge of about 50 cubic meters per second. It has a strong erosion effect on the riverbed and is beneficial to the formation of waterfalls.

Morphological character

Guichun River has a rainfall catchment area of about 2200 square kilometers, of which 505 square kilometers are distributed in Vietnam, with an average annual flow of 55.20 cubic meters per second. The river bed of Guichun River falls 243 meters. The largest one is Detian Waterfall, which forms the fourth natural waterfall. Detian Waterfall is 100 meters wide, divided into three cascades, with a vertical height of more than 70 meters. It originates from Guichun River in Guangxi and has water all year round. Detian Waterfall is connected with Banyo Waterfall in Vietnam. During the rainy season, the two waterfalls are integrated, with a width of 208 meters.

Historical culture

1. Every morning at 9:00 a.m., there is a special tourist express bus departing from Nanning Langdong Station, which can go directly to the gate of the scenic spot. But time is limited and we have to go back at 3:30 p.m. If you can't catch up, you can transfer to Daxin County Bus Station.

2. Every day, there are many buses going to Daxin County at Nanning Beida Passenger Station, and then transfer to Detian Scenic Area after arriving at Daxin.

3. De antenna is a well-developed tourist route. The day tour with the group usually starts from 7:00 to 7:30 a.m. in Nanning. The price is about 200 yuan. It is convenient for the special bus to go directly to the scenic spot. The price of the two-day tour varies from more than 200 yuan to more than 500 yuan, both in full package and in half package. Generally, you will visit Mingshi Pastoral or Lingshi Grand Canyon on the basis of Detian Falls.

Self-driving travelling

Starting from Nanning, follow 324 National Highway (Fukun Line) westbound to Tanluo, turn left to Daxin direction, to Shuolong Town, and then go on for more than 10 kilometers. Tour time

The best time to visit Detian Falls: June - November every year, because of the rainy season, there is a large amount of water and clean water, which is the best time to appreciate the roar of the waterfall. Detian Falls has abundant water in summer and abundant vegetation around it.

On October 17, 2018, the National Tourism Resources Planning and Development Quality Assessment Committee announced that nine scenic spots such as Detian Transnational Falls in Chongzuo City would be designated as national 5A-level scenic spots.
