Chengdu Medical College is a full-time general medical college organized by the Sichuan Provincial People's Government. It is located in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province. Its history can be traced back to the training course for health cadres held in Henan, Anhui and Soviet Military Region in 1947. In August 2004, according to the decision of the State Council and the Central Military Commission, the whole school was transferred to the Sichuan Provincial People's Government for management. The name of the school was changed from "Chengdu Military Medical College of the Third Military Medical University" to "Chengdu Medical College".

The school has always inherited and carried forward the fine tradition of "paying special attention to politics, overall situation, discipline, dedication and fighting", adhering to the school motto of "learning, love and excellence", and adhering to the spirit of "Yu Ru and Cheng, perfection and promotion of medicine", which has developed into a medical specialty with medical science as its main subject and medical theory as its core. Applied Medical Colleges with the combination of medical workers and medical management and the coordinated development of disciplines and specialties.

The school started undergraduate education in 2000; obtained the right to confer bachelor's degree in 2006, and became a master's degree conferring unit in 2011; in 2012, it became the first batch of Pilot Universities of the national "Excellent Doctor Education Training Program Project"; in 2013, through the undergraduate teaching qualifications assessment of the Ministry of Education, it led the establishment of "Sichuan Old Age and Health Co-creation". The new center has been approved as the first batch of "2011 Plan" projects in Sichuan Province; in 2016, it became the first university in Sichuan Province to pass the certification of clinical medicine specialty of the Ministry of Education with excellent results; in 2017, it was approved as a provincial-level demonstration University for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform in Sichuan Province; and in 2018, it became a "100-School Project" construction university in China with Ministry of Education data, and was approved.“ Sichuan Provincial Distance Continuing Medical Education Trial Operation Organization has become the first "Geriatric Medical Training Center (Southwest)" in China. It has been awarded the "Five-One" Help Advanced Collective by provincial Party Committee and provincial government to fight poverty in the whole province.

The school has two campuses, Xindu and Tianhui, covering an area of more than 1200 mu. There are more than 12,000 full-time graduates, undergraduates and specialists. There are 11 teaching units directly under the second level. There are 8 authorization points for master's degree (3 authorization points for master's degree of first-level discipline: basic medicine, medical technology, Marxist theory, 5 authorization points for master's degree: clinical medicine, pharmacy, public health, applied psychology, nursing), 20 undergraduate majors and 5 specialty majors. There are 3 specialties with undergraduate characteristics in Sichuan Province and 4 specialties with application and demonstration in Sichuan Province. It has two national experimental teaching platforms - National virtual simulation experimental teaching center, national experimental teaching demonstration center of clinical medicine, one medical humanities quality education base of Ministry of Education and five experimental teaching demonstration centers of Sichuan Province. There are three first-class affiliated hospitals, four affiliated hospitals, 15 non-affiliated hospitals and 96 out-of-school practice teaching bases. They have won two first-class awards, six second-class awards and nine third-class awards for teaching achievements in Sichuan Province.

Professional and technical titles of Vice-Senior and above accounted for 48.16%, doctoral degree for 24.14% and master degree for 42.12% of full-time teachers. There are state-level candidates for the National "Thousand-Person Program", "Special Professors for Yangtze River Scholars, and Millions of Talents Project in the New Century", "Experts Enjoying Special Allowances from the State Council", "Supporting Plan for Excellent Talents in the New Century" of the Ministry of Education of China","Academic and Technological Leaders of Sichuan Province","Thousand-Person Program"for Young Talent More than 40 outstanding experts, leading personnel of health family planning in Sichuan Province and famous teachers of teaching in Sichuan Province have contributed.

The school has built 15 provincial and departmental research platforms and 11 high-level research teams. Since 2005, 115 projects have been established by the National Natural Science Foundation and the National Social Science Foundation. Published more than 800 papers in SCI, EI and CPCI-S. Young teachers'academic papers are published in Cell, Nucleic Acids Research and other high-level academic journals. Journal of Chengdu Medical College has been selected as the core journal of science and technology in China, and has been awarded the excellent journal of science and technology in Chinese universities.

Students have repeatedly won good results in various competitions at all levels. They have won first prize, second prize and first prize in the National Finals of Medical College Students'Clinical Skills Competition, and fourth prize in the Southwest and Northwest Competition Area. The school faces the national enrollment, with high quality students and higher adjusting line than provincial control line. Clinical medicine, medical imaging, anesthesiology and pediatrics specialties are enrolled in batches of undergraduates. The employment rate of school graduates has remained above 95% continuously, and has been awarded "Advanced Collective of Employment Work in Sichuan Colleges and Universities" for many times.
