Xi Chao is the founder of Huimo, which was founded in the late Tang Dynasty. Xi Chao, the descendant of Xi's ink making family in Yishui (now Yizhou, Hebei Province), fled south to Shezhou with his family to avoid war. Seeing the dense pines and clear streams here, he settled down and resumed his old business of ink making. His ink is "rich and greasy, glossy as lacquer". In the Southern Tang Dynasty, Li Yu, the later leader, got Xi's ink and regarded it as a treasure.

So he made his son Xi Tingfan a "Mo Wu Guan" and gave his surname Li as a reward. The Xi family changed their surname to Li from then on. Therefore, Li Mo in Shezhou became famous all over the world, with the reputation of "gold is easy to get, but Li Mo is hard to get". The national ink making center also moved to Shezhou. Since then, ink makers have sprung up, such as Geng, Zhang Yu, Pan Gu, Wu Zi, Dai yanheng and so on. Huizhou ink industry has entered its first heyday.

Famous ink maker. The birth and death are unknown. Yishui people, later moved to Shexian County, Anhui Province. Xi Naizi. The ink is "rich in muscle, greasy in texture, glossy as lacquer". When Tao Zongyi of Yuan Dynasty talked about the method of making pine smoke and ink, he said: "since Yishui and his son (Xi Chao and his son Tingyu) crossed the river, the common people gathered together to form a cloud.". During the reign of emperor Renzong of the Song Dynasty (1056), every time he held a banquet at qunyu hall, he gave it to Li Chao, who was a Mo official of the Southern Tang Dynasty (surnamed Li).
