Character evaluation
Starting from the montage characteristics of the film, Chen Liting attaches great importance to exploring the expressive potential of the image. When explaining the meaning of montage, he should not only pay attention to the impact of the content of the screen on the column, but also focus on the form factors such as light, shadow and space. His exposition of cinematicism is obviously advanced and avant-garde. He did not regard cinematicism as an exclusive feature of film art, but as a unique thinking that existed in the era of the origin of human art (review of Journal of Beijing Film Academy). Chen Liting is good at research, works seriously, and puts more energy on artistic creation and theoretical research in his work. At the same time, he adheres to the creative principle of realism. In Chen Liting's films, not only the light and shade have dramatic effects, but also the projection of the subject has artistic "different" techniques. Moreover, he seldom describes the cruelty of war in a positive way. There was neither smoke nor hunger in the war of resistance against Japan. The war only existed as the background of the times for the characters' activities. The people in the war of resistance against Japan were full of enthusiasm and happiness. The director focused on expressing the influence of the war on individuals (comments by Zhang Hui of Shanghai Drama Academy).
