Features of works
Gulong's novels weaken the function of martial arts in martial arts novels, and express the restriction of martial arts and force, the limitation of authority and responsibility of using force. Gulong's writing style has been changing from his early works "biography of the great flag hero" and "romantic sword" to his mid-term works "peerless Shuangjiao" and "Chu Liuxiang", to his later works "Tianya · Mingyue · Dao" and "meteor · butterfly · sword". He created a kind of martial arts school. As a writer, this is a breakthrough and pursuit.
Gulong's early works are relatively rigorous structure, can echo the beginning and the end, the plot of the characters develop vertically, open and close, the characters are many but not chaotic, and each has its own personality. The novel focuses on rendering the atmosphere of the typical environment, revealing the personality of the characters through the changes of the plot, and its representative work, the romance of the famous sword.
The structure of gulong's works in the middle period is rigorous, and the scenes, characters and plots are combined into a perfect overall framework, which is grand on the whole. The representative work is "peerless double pride", which marks that Gu Long's novels have entered a new artistic realm and a milestone of Gu Long's novels. It begins with tragedy and ends with comedy, which is a tragicomedy of life.
The theme of Gu Long's late novels is unconventional, the structure is more rigorous, the plot is also ups and downs, closely linked, with the surface characteristics of character to write the psychological characteristics leading to the formation of character. The character is distinctive. The representative work "meteor, butterfly, sword".
The greatest characteristic of gulong's novels is that he creatively brings drama, reasoning, poetry and other elements into the traditional martial arts novels, and integrates his own unique philosophy of life into them, forming a unique style of Gulong style martial arts novels. Gulong successfully uses the new style of scenery, emotion and heart, and takes into account the intricate plot arrangement of traditional Chinese novels; There are real writing, virtual writing; heavy pen depiction, light pen with; aphorism and aphorism, brilliant dialogue; inner world excavation, clever rendering of atmosphere; relaxation, emotion and taste; twists and turns, survival; sadness and humor; heartstrings and imagination; endless narration but not chaos, suspense and reasonable; touching The heart and tear, can't stop and endless aftertaste. Gulong said: "if a person indulges in alcohol, there must be something sad for him, and the sad person must be affectionate." He broke the previous martial arts to paragraph based approach, using a large number of short sentences, sentence by paragraph arrangement. According to Gulong himself, "long sentences are like a torrent of rivers. Suddenly they are connected by short sentences. They are like a sword cutting off the water. You can get the special effect of ups and downs." Indeed, although there are many short sentences in Gulong's works, the beauty of the words is still beautiful. Gulong's works are always full of truth, goodness and beauty. In his works, no matter how sad the story is, people can feel a touch of warmth. The understanding of human nature and the forgiveness after this understanding is the theme of Gulong.

Character evaluation
Ni Kuang (good friend of Gu Long, Hong Kong writer): "there is no gu long in the world, there is Gu Long in the heart."
Bai Yansong: "in Gulong's works, no matter who looks carefully, there are you and me, so Gulong is not ancient."
Chen Kun: "gulong's style is cool. His writing is very poetic. There are many spaces left blank for you to imagine."
Wen Ruian: "the writing method of Gulong is relatively simple. He is very talented. But the problem with Gulong is that he has great talent, and he also has the personality of a prodigal son. Therefore, he has spare no effort in his creation. What's more, Gulong also likes to drink. He often drinks and makes mistakes. It's inevitable that there will be ghostwriting. The level of his writing is uneven, which is very regrettable. " But Wen Ruian insisted that "the status of Gulong and Jinyong should definitely be side by side."
Wong Kar Wai (Hong Kong director): "because Gulong is a hooligan, a talented hooligan. So when I was shooting, I would think, if Gulong wrote about the play, how would he write about it? I like contrast. Just try to tell the story of Jin Yong in the tone of Gulong. "
Tsui Hark (Hong Kong director): "the essence of Gu Long's Novels"
