Yao Shougang, born in 1940 in Hebei Province, was admitted to the Northwest Literature and Art Troupe as a singer and dancer in January 1951. In 1958, he was transferred to the Director Office of Xi'an Film Studio (now the Western Film Group). In 1976, he entered Beijing Film Academy and majored in directing. In 1978, he graduated and returned to his factory. He has participated in the shooting of nearly 20 films, from field record, director assistant, deputy director to independent director.
