Dong Runnian, born in Tianjin, is a screenwriter and director in mainland China. He graduated from the director department of Communication University of China, majoring in film and television directing (Bachelor's degree) and Film Science (Master's degree).

In 2003, he began his writing career as a screenwriter of Qingming restaurant. In 2004, he was the screenwriter of the sitcom dormitory for college students.
