Water from Dongjiang River
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Michael Moore can make a great success in making documentaries, and his works can also win the highest honor of the world film festival. However, Hong Kong audiences have never bought documentaries, and there are fewer people making documentaries than watching them. So we can't imagine that in Hong Kong a few decades ago, when the box office of a film was only a few hundred thousand, a documentary could have more than a million.
That was in the 1960s. Photographer and director Luo Junxiong's documentary "Dongjiang water over the mountains" was released on the day when Dongjiang water was officially supplied to Hong Kong. Hong Kong people who had just experienced water shortage finally had water to drink and could see how Dongjiang water came over the mountains.
Documentary breaks the record
Luo Junxiong, who has lived in Canada for many years, returns to Hong Kong to meet his relatives and friends. The 88 year old is a bit slow, but his face is ruddy. Talking about the shooting of "the water of Dongjiang River crossing the mountain" in those years, I even danced.
"At that time, when I was making documentaries, I had to travel to the construction sites in Guangzhou. There were only five people in the whole production team: a driver, a local contact, a drama administrator, an assistant, and I was also a screenwriter, director and photographer. I went to many construction sites to shoot the project. In March 1965, when the water supply to Hong Kong was officially completed, the film was released simultaneously, setting a million box office record.
Later, Luo Junxiong made "secrets of the three armed forces of China" and went to Tibet to make a local documentary. "The initial transformation of documentary production started with some surplus materials. "Said Luo Junxiong. He has been engaged in the film industry for many years, from small-scale work to field recording, and then to photography assistant, photographer, director, etc. Luo Junxiong's personal habit is to save the film left after the film is made. Chen Guo used the remaining film to make "made in Hong Kong" famous. Luo Junxiong, who was 30 years earlier than him, used the remaining film to shoot the water shortage in Hong Kong in the 1960s. The documentary was later released with his film "miss jiaodidi", which attracted much attention. It also led to his later documentary "water from Dongjiang River over the mountains".
Personal experience
Escape years
Luo Junxiong was born in the year of the May 4th Movement in Zhongshan. Qianshan, where he lives, is only an hour away from Macao. Every weekend, he walks to Macao and goes to a friend's home for a night. Hua Banxian enters the theater from the back door to watch the film that turns from left to right behind the curtain. In 1932, 13-year-old Luo Junxiong moved to Hong Kong, but he was sent to Guangzhou to study in a private school under the arrangement of his father. Two years later, he dropped out of school and moved with his family to open a grocery store in tai'ao to do local fishermen's business. Later, he was introduced to Hong Kong by his cousin and filmmaker Luo Zhixiong. He began to work as a part-time actor and began to get in touch with film development, film cutting, photography and other techniques.
"I've been studying for four years, and I've just learned how to wash and cut. Nippon has arrived. So the film industry in Hong Kong stopped. Japan attacked Hong Kong on December 8, 1941, Shatin on December 11, and Kowloon fell a few days later. "Nippon shot Shau Kei Wan in Kowloon City. By Christmas, the governor of Hong Kong announced his surrender and Hong Kong was totally occupied. The Japanese were catching people everywhere in the streets. At that time, all the actors and workers went to the Grand View studio in diamond hill to hide. A month later, the market became calm, and everyone scattered and fled.
Luo Junxiong fled to Guangxi in 1942. His parents met him again in Guilin in 1944. When they fled to Guiyang, they met the Japanese army. Luo Junxiong was captured and separated from his parents. "At that time, I was captured by the Japanese army and locked up for two weeks to help them carry wounded soldiers and shells. Later, I ran away while I was assigned work. A week later, I met my father again. But at that time, my father was helpless and soon died. The mother, who had been separated for a long time, was reunited only after her father died.
The 88 year old man, talking about the war, is like telling a long history. Sometimes he can't remember the year clearly, but his face is firmly in his mind. "Then
