Hu Jinqing

Hu Jinqing (March 1936 May 13, 2019), male, from Changzhou, Jiangsu Province. He is a first-class director of Shanghai art film studio, and once served as vice president of China Animation Association. Known as the "father of gourd baby", he is one of the outstanding artists who created and developed Chinese paper-cut animation.

The main works are: paper-cut "brothers gourd", "fishing boy", "golden conch", "ginseng Doll", "snipe and clam fight" and so on. He has won the excellent film award of the Ministry of culture, the Golden Rooster Award, and the Silver Bear Award for the best short film of the West Berlin International Film Festival.

On May 13, 2019, Hu Jinqing died of illness in Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital at the age of 83.

Life figures

In March 1936, Hu Jinqing was born in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, under the pseudonym of modu. Good at paper cutting, animation art.

He graduated from Beijing Film School in 1953 and worked in Shanghai fine arts film studio. After that, he took part in the production of 35 films. Ten films directed by him have their own characteristics. Among them, the paper-cut film "snipe and clam fight", "mischievous golden monkey" and "grass man" all won the excellent film award of the Ministry of culture, and "snipe and clam fight" also won four consecutive awards on International TV. Hu Jinqing made great contribution to the development of paper-cut. In the early days, he and the famous director Wan guchan jointly created and researched China's first paper-cut. After that, a new process of paper-cut called "texturing" was developed to make ink style paper-cut pieces. In 1985, he won the excellent film award of the Ministry of radio and television and was nominated for the Golden Rooster Award.
