Character evaluation
Zhang Junxiang's creation, theory and film activities clearly reflect the development track of Chinese film. He came from the critical realism tradition of Shanghai's progressive films after the war and completed the transformation to the revolutionary realism line of new China's red films. However, in the deepening and development of contemporary realism of Chinese films in the 1980s, he went to the edge and decline. Although Zhang Junxiang unconsciously adds dramatic elements to the film, he pays great attention to the techniques of film shooting. In the characterization, Zhang Junxiang also spared no effort to use "funny" elements. He was deeply influenced by western drama theory and influenced by American Hollywood film culture, which made his films have both dramatic and cinematic characteristics. He combined Hollywood early comedy films with Shanghai citizen culture and formed his own concept of film comedy (review of contemporary films).
