Zhou Youchao, born in Hebei Province in 1957, is a director in mainland China and graduated from Northwest University.

In 1991, he directed his first film "sister-in-law in Northern Shaanxi". In 1994, he directed the plot film "yellow sand, green grass and red sun", which won the best picture award of Prague International Film Festival. In 1998, he directed the inspirational film "carrying my father to school" and won the special award of the 5th University Film Festival and the bronze Eagle Award of the 29th Swiss gifforny International Film Festival. In 2001, he directed the military film plateau like a dream, which won the outstanding feature film award of the 8th Huabiao award and the "five one project" award. In 2005, he directed the documentary film "life and death Niu Yuru", which was shortlisted for the best film award of the 28th Volkswagen Hundred Flowers Award.
