Yang Liwei
Yang Liwei, male, Han nationality, was born on June 21, 1965 in Suizhong County, Huludao City, Liaoning Province. He is a member of the Communist Party of China, a major general of the Chinese people's Liberation Army and a special class astronaut. He is now a member of the 13th CPPCC National Committee and deputy chief designer of China's manned space project.
He has successively served as deputy director of China Astronaut Research and training center, deputy commander in chief of manned space engineering astronaut system, alternate member of the Central Committee, director of China Manned Space Engineering Office, the first generation of astronauts trained by China, and the first person to enter space. Yang Liwei flew safely for 1350 hours in the former air force.
At 9:00 Beijing time on October 15, 2003, Yang Liwei went into space for the first time by Shenzhou-5 spacecraft carried by long march-2f rocket, symbolizing a big step forward in China's space industry and playing a milestone role. On December 18, 2020, he was selected into the top 500 Chinese brand characters in 2020, ranking 57.

In 1983, Yang Liwei was admitted to the eighth Flight Academy of the air force.
He graduated from the Air Force Aviation University of the people's Liberation Army with a bachelor's degree in 1987. Assigned to the air force fighter air force as a pilot. He was awarded the rank of lieutenant in the air force in 1988 and joined the Communist Party of China in 1988.
In September 1995, the manned space engineering command was approved by the Central Military Commission to select reserve astronauts from the active pilots of the air force. In January 1998, he became China's first generation astronaut together with 13 other outstanding Air Force pilots. Since the astronaut brigade was subordinate to the general equipment department, it was changed to the army at that time, and the rank of major in the air force was changed to major in the army. In 2000, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel and worked hard.
In July 2003, it was assessed by the astronaut selection and evaluation committee of the manned space project that it has the ability to independently carry out space flight, and was awarded the level III astronaut qualification. Around the Spring Festival in 2004, he was promoted to the rank of senior colonel. On December 09, Yang Liwei was awarded the honorary doctorate of science by the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
In 2005, Yang Liwei was appointed deputy director of China Astronaut Research and training center and deputy commander in chief of manned space engineering astronaut system.
In October 2007, he was elected as an alternate member of the CPC Central Committee at the 17th CPC National Congress.
On July 22, 2008, he was promoted to the rank of major general. On November 17, he served as the honorary principal of Wenchang middle school at the centennial celebration of Wenchang middle school in Hainan Province.
On February 3, 2010, Suzhou University hired him as an honorary professor, vice director of China Manned Space Engineering Office in March, and on May 15, he was hired by Jilin University as a life tutor for college students.
He was elected academician of the International Academy of Astronautics in 2011.
On March 24, 2013, Yang Liwei was awarded the honorary doctor of Science degree by Macao University of science and technology.
On April 23, 2018, Yang Liwei became the director of China Manned Space Engineering Office.
On July 12, 2018, Yang Liwei resigned as director of China Manned Space Engineering Office.
In October 2019, he was appointed deputy chief designer of China's manned space engineering.
Personal life
On June 21, 1965, Yang Liwei was born in Suizhong Town, Suizhong County, Liaoning Province. He lived by the sea since he was a child. As a child, he had a dream that one day he could fly to the blue sky like a seagull.
Yang Liwei loved reading books when he was a child. He wrote a composition "I met Premier Zhou", which was selected into the composition collection. Father Yang Deyuan, mother Wei Guilan is a teacher in a middle school in town. Xiao Liwei has been weak, introverted and lacking courage since childhood. In order to change Xiao Liwei's character, every winter and summer vacation, his father consciously took him to climb mountains and swim in the East Liugu River of the county. In autumn, I took him to climb trees and pick fruits in the mountains. Since then, Xiao Liwei has become interested in exploration and sports. He often travels with his friends, climbing fox cave mountain to visit fox cave, ancient temple sites and legendary "chained well". After watching "shining red star", "soldier Zhang Ga", "chicken feather letter" and other war feature films, he begged his father to help his classmates make the red tassel gun, and volunteered to become the head of the children's team. After watching "railway guerrillas", he always dreamed of being a train driver, but he didn't expect to become the first person in China's space.
In June 1983, when he was in the third grade of senior high school, air force recruiters had to select pilots from local fresh graduates. Yang Liwei, who had a military dream since childhood, was the first to report his name at the registration office. After strict selection, inspection, physical examination, face-to-face test and other procedures, 18-year-old Yang Liwei officially became a student of the Air Force Flight Academy of the Chinese people's Liberation Army.

Yang Liwei was the first Chinese citizen to enter space (October 15, 2003). Before him, four Chinese American astronauts had entered space.

On January 25, 2018, 11 astronauts including Nie Haisheng, Fei Junlong, Jing Haipeng, Zhai Zhigang, Liu Boming, Chen Dong, Deng Qingming, Zhang Xiaoguang, Liu Wang, Liu Yang and Wang Yaping were awarded the honorary title of "era model" by the Central Propaganda Department.
In April 2019, he was appointed as the first Aerospace public welfare ambassador.
