Huang Jianxun
Huang Jianxun (1852-1894) was born in Yongfu, Fujian Province (now Yongtai County, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province). In 1867, he studied in Fuzhou shipping school as a scholar. In 1871, after finishing the course, he boarded the "Jianwei" training ship for practice, and toured the ports of Singapore and Penang in the south, Zhili Bay and Liaodong Bay in the north. In 1874, he served as the orthodox teacher of "Yangwu" clipper and transferred to "Fuxing" gunboat. The next year, he was transferred back to Yangwu and went to Japan and other ports in China to increase his experience and recommend Qianzong insurance.
Life
In the winter of 1876, Huang Jianxun went abroad to study as the first group of overseas students of Fuzhou shipping administration. In the spring of 1877, he first arrived in France and then transferred to England to study chemistry and mechanics. At the end of that year, he went to the British armored ship "bolerofen" as an intern and served as the second deputy. In 1879, the captain of "bolerofen" awuri praised Huang Jianxun's internship results and issued a certificate of "learning and acting gracefully". After the internship, Huang Jianxun continued to study in Britain, studying the offensive and defensive tactics of guns. In April 1880, he returned to China and served as a driving instructor in Fuzhou shipping school.
In 1881, Huang Jianbu, a student coach, was awarded the title of meritorious service. In July of the same year, Li Hongzhang recruited naval talents. Hearing that Huang Jianxun had expertise, he was transferred to Beiyang to serve as the commander of Dagu mine camp. In March 1882, he was ordered to act as the "Zhenxi" gunship's tube belt. Soon after the civil strife in North Korea, Japan took the opportunity to intervene. Ding Ruchang led a ship to escort Wu Changqing's troops eastward to aid North Korea. Huang Jianxun was granted the "Zhenxi" command and went to North Korea. After the incident was settled, he was promoted to the capital with his merits and was rewarded with Hualing. In April 1887, he was transferred to the "Chaoyong" clipper. In 1889, the naval yamen was established, with the left wing and right battalion as its general, and Huang Jianxun as its agent. In 1891, Li Hongzhang toured the Beiyang Navy, and Huang Jianxun was given the rank of deputy general because of his meritorious training.
On September 17, 1894, the Beiyang Navy and the Japanese joint fleet launched a war in the Yellow Sea. The Japanese Navy attacked the two weak warships of "Yang Wei" and "Chao Yong" at the base of the Beiyang Navy with four guerrilla warships. Huang Jianxun was "generous, chivalrous, resolute, straightforward, not worldly, but worked hard in the army and often stood out". Under his command, all the officers and men of the ship will fight to the death, but "Chaoyong" is an old ship more than ten years old, and it can't defeat the four main ships of the Japanese guerrillas. In the fierce battle, "Chaoyong" was hit by many bullets, especially one of the enemy's bullets penetrated the cabin and caused a fire. In a flash, "Chaoyong" was covered by black smoke. Because "Chaoyong" is a wooden ship, it can't be rescued when the cabin caught fire Before long, the starboard side was tilted and it was difficult to drive. Finally, it was destroyed by the fire. After Huang Jianxun fell into the water, the "first on the left" torpedo boat approached to rescue him and threw a long rope to help him. He was 43 years old.
After death
After Huang Jianxun died in the country, the Qing government issued a decree to give him a special pension and the title of commander in chief. He inherited Yun Qi Wei and en Qi Wei, and he inherited Wang ti. Huang Jianxun had two sons. His eldest son, Huang Dajun, inherited his position and his second son, Huang Daci, studied in Japan.
