Xue Lingxian
Xue Lingxian is a famous song and dance and movie star in old China. The first wife of the famous composer Yan Zhexi.
Life
She joined Li Jinhui's literature and art team in 1928 when she was in "Meimei school" (another teaching and performing institution established by Li Jinhui from 1927 to 1928 to cultivate talents of song and dance after "Chinese song and dance school"). After only three months of study, she went to Nanyang with Li Jinhui's "Chinese song and Dance Troupe" to perform in May 1928. After returning to China in October 1929, she joined the "bright moon song and Dance Troupe" set up by Li Jinhui in Beiping. She performed with the troupe in North China and Northeast China, and was highly praised. She was known as the "Four Heavenly Kings" of the troupe with Wang Renmei, Li Lili and Hu Jia. In 1931, "Mingyue song and Dance Troupe" was absorbed by Lianhua film, and Xue Lingxian became a member of "Lianhua song and Dance Troupe" under the name of Lianhua. After the January 28 Incident in Shanghai in 1932, Lianhua tightened its finances, and the song and dance troupe stopped. She and more than 40 old members decided to work on their own and set up "Mingyue song and Dance Troupe" to perform in major cities in the south of the Yangtze River. Although the cast was quite luxurious, due to the chaos of social order and the ideological differences among the members of the troupe at that time, the survival of the troupe was very difficult, and finally it was officially dissolved in 1933. In the past few years in Li Jinhui's literary and artistic team, Xue Lingxian has acted in many popular song and dance dramas and song and dance performance songs. Among them, she has also played the leading role in such song and dance dramas and song and dance performance songs as grape fairy, moonlit night, happy spring and poor autumn fragrance. She has become a well-known song and dance actor at that time, along with the other three female stars Wang Renmei and Li Lili of Mingyue song and dance troupe Hu Jia is known as the "four heavenly kings of song and dance".
Around 1933, Xue Lingxian formally entered the film industry. In just a few years, she starred in five films such as pink dream, South China Sea beauty and flowers of misfortune, and recorded many film episodes such as South China Sea beauty and flowers of misfortune. During this period, also launched "good news", "love on love" and other single. In the early 1930s, Xue Lingxian's personal acting career reached its peak and became a famous star in the singing and film circles.
In 1926, Xue Lingxian married Yan Zhexi and had a daughter (according to Wang Renmei's oral memoir "my fame and misfortune"). Later, Xue Lingxian was addicted to opium, which directly led to her breaking up with Yan Zhexi in the late 1930s. In 1944, Xue Lingxian was down and out, seriously ill (one said drug addiction attack, another said lung disease), and died of cold in the street in a state of unconsciousness, which became a noisy news in Shanghai news media at that time, and her divorced husband Yan Zhexi was also greatly hit.
