Xu Changlin, director and critic of Chinese film and television. He was born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. He studied in Hangzhou Sanjiang University (1937) and Chengdu drama school (1940).

He has successively served as director of Chongqing China Film Studio (1940), screenwriter of Shanghai No.3 Power Plant (1947), director of Shanghai Cathay film company (1949), director of Shanghai Film Studio (1952). In 1986, the 14 episode TV series "Yang Naiwu and Chinese cabbage" won the silver swallow award of East China excellent TV award and the "Galaxy Award" of Shanghai film and Television Literature Research Association for excellent TV script creation. His works include: seeking treasure from national literature and art, montage of film and Fu Bi Xing of poetry, exploration of national form of film, on national style of early Chinese film.
