In the years when he galloped in the world badminton arena as an athlete, together with Tian Bingyi, he changed the long-term backward situation of Chinese Badminton Men's doubles. Together with Park Fengzhu / Jin Wenxiu of South Korea, Hong Zhongzhong / Guo Hongyuan of Indonesia and West Germany brothers of Malaysia, he called the doubles "four heavenly kings" at that time.
In 1992, badminton was listed as the official event of Barcelona Olympic Games. Li Yongbo is nearly 30 years old. With the dream of winning a gold medal in men's doubles before retiring, he entered the Barcelona Olympic Games. Unexpectedly, he was injured in the first game. With the support of his spirit, he won an Olympic bronze medal and retired from the national team.
Teaching experience
Li Yongbo has been the coach, deputy head coach and head coach of the national team since 1993. Li Yongbo is famous for his resolute and strict military management. He attaches great importance to the cultivation of reserve team. In recent years, China has formed a coherent group advantage in many projects, and has become a new force of Chinese badminton.
In 1993, retired Li Yongbo was appointed as deputy head coach of the badminton team (there was no head coach at that time). And started a thorough transformation, the formation of a younger team of coaches and athletes. However, the Thomas and Uber cups of Hiroshima and the two Asian Games were tasted bitter.
In 1995, Li Yongbo finally ushered in the turning point of his coaching career, and his Guoyu won the Sudiman cup.
In 1996, women's Badminton Doubles achieved a breakthrough of zero gold medals in the Olympic Games, and won three gold medals in the 1997 World Championships. In 1998, the women's team won the Uber Cup, which had been separated for four years, and easily won it in 2000.
The 22nd Thomas Cup held in Guangzhou in 2002 ranked third, while the 19th Uber Cup held in the same period won the third consecutive championship.
In the 8th sudyman Cup Badminton mixed team match held in Holland in 2003, China lost to South Korea and failed to realize its dream of five consecutive championships.
In 2008, Li Yongbo held the three big cups of Sudiman, Thomas and Uber, and China became the only country in the world with the highest honors of these three badminton events at the same time. On the list of world champions cultivated by Li Yongbo, 58 people have been listed on it.
The 2012 London Olympic Games reached the peak of Li Yongbo's coaching career. He led the Chinese badminton team to a grand slam with five gold medals, achieving a historic breakthrough and making outstanding contributions to the Chinese sports delegation.
In 2013, Li Yongbo made it clear that he was very dissatisfied with the results of the whole team in 2013. In 2013, the Chinese team took part in 36 races, and the winning probability was about 40%, that is to say, it won about 2 gold medals in each race on average. Compared with the result of 4 gold medals in each race in 2012, this result decreased significantly. Li Yongbo believes that the performance of the first-line main team has declined significantly, and what he is most dissatisfied with is the spread of hedonism in the team. "From 69 gold medals, it seems that there are many, but what he is most dissatisfied with is the slackness of the athletes and coaches, who did not come out of the five gold halo of the London Olympic Games."
In April 2017, the Chinese Olympic Committee officially established an expert committee, and Li Yongbo was selected as an expert member of the Chinese Olympic Committee.
On April 27, 2017, the table tennis and badminton center of the State General Administration of sports officially announced that Li Yongbo resigned as the head coach of the Chinese badminton team.

Personal life
Love experience
In May 1983, Liaoning badminton team and Xie Ying's rhythmic gymnastics team trained in the same hall. Maybe they were worried about affecting the training of the young players of the badminton team. At that time, it was clearly stipulated that they were not allowed to go to the rhythmic gymnastics, and the two teams were separated by wooden walls. Li Yongbo just came back from the national team. He didn't know that there was a "three eight line" between the two teams. So that day, he could open the door and look inside. At that time, he thought the girl was very good-looking and nice. He wanted to know her, so he went to Xie Ying and asked, "how old are you?" Xie Ying immediately told him, "I, 15, belong to monkey." Li Yongbo said, "I'm six years older than you. I'm a tiger." so they got to know each other.
Xie Ying said that all along, Li Yongbo's greatest attraction lies in her authenticity, sense of responsibility and his inner feelings. In the past eight years, they spent less than one year together, until they got married in 1991. In Xie Ying's opinion, Li Yongbo is a person with self and pursuit. His career needs assistance, which makes him feel very happy no matter in his career or at home. He doesn't need to be distracted or concerned. Xie Ying sincerely felt that she was lucky and blessed.
Speaking of Xie Ying, Li Yongbo said with deep feeling: "we have been sharing weal and woe for so many years. I know she is not easy. I spend at least half of my time outside every year. She is doing a lot of things at home. From the birth of my son to the age of 9, she is taking care of her study and life, and she has done a good job in her own career. I think there are many factors in family harmony and love between husband and wife, which can not be replaced by love. She has made a great sacrifice for you and created a larger space for you to work. On the other hand, you will like her more. So no matter where I go, I often think of her; I think I should understand her working environment and her mood. "
"I used to say so much that I was afraid she didn't know. Now that there are changes, I would like to express them by doing things, such as spending more time with my wife and children, which is better than saying. Let her know from your actions. I think it's better. After all, we have reached a certain age. I've always been lucky, I feel good, my career is recognized, my family is beautiful, and my children are healthy. Modern people have a variety of pursuits. My pursuit is to succeed in my career and to be happy in my family. Both are indispensable. Even if one day my team won all the gold medals, but my family is not happy, I also think I am not successful
In Li's living room, there is a unique wall, on which 63 medals of various sizes are neatly hung. These are the brilliant records of Li Yongbo's 10-year playing career when he was young. Many medals have long been forgotten by Li Yongbo. Xie Ying thinks that this is something worth remembering for the whole family, especially for her son. Therefore, she made this wall herself.
Guest singer
When Li Yongbo was an athlete, he once left a deep impression with a song "dedication". After becoming a coach, he and Cheng Fangyuan CO produced the MV "all is one love". Later, the song of China national badminton team "flowers tonight" composed by Liang Tian was still sung by Li Yongbo. During the 2008 Olympic Games, he sang a song "cheers to brothers" with the famous singer Pang long.
Get involved in movies
The horror movie Bixian II, directed by "Asian terror master" an Bingji and starring Park Hanxing, will be released in China on July 17, 2013. In the film, Li Yongbo plays the role of badminton coach. Li Yongbo is still wearing that trademark hat, with round eyes and stern expression, showing his consistent vigorous and serious manner. In the film, Li Yongbo plays the badminton coach of Hongrui (Yang Fan), who has made a lot of efforts for his beloved.
Although it was the first time to get an electric shock, Li Yongbo was not afraid of stage because of his previous experience in advertising and MV shooting. He said: "my part is basically playing my own part. It's not difficult for me. In fact, it's much less pressure than being a coach." Talking about Yang Fan's skills in the film, Li Yongbo said with a smile that it's good to be able to train to the current level in a short time, but if you want to enter the national team, it's no use. For Li Yongbo's performance, he felt no surprise.
