At the invitation of President Li Wei'an, who recently visited the headquarters of Hanban to report on our undertaking of Confucius Institute, on January 22, 2014, Xu Lin, counsellor of the State Council, director general of the headquarters of Confucius Institute, director of Hanban, and Wang Yongli, deputy director of Hanban, came to visit the university to inspect our undertaking of "Confucius Institute for business in Scotland", Sun Zhiliang, deputy director of Tianjin Municipal Education Commission, and the leaders of the international exchange office accompanied the visit. Director Xu Lin and his party first visited the teaching infrastructure of our university, had a cordial conversation with teachers of Chinese as a foreign language, representatives of teachers of the College of Humanities and the College of Arts, and foreign students, and inquired in detail about the reserve of bilingual teachers and the study and life of foreign students in our university. At the subsequent work report meeting, Wang Yuying, Secretary of the Party committee of the University, and Li Wei'an, President of the University, expressed warm welcome to the leaders of Hanban and the Municipal Education Commission on behalf of the University, and expressed heartfelt thanks to Director Xu Lin for his special support for the international education of the University. Vice president Zhang Junxi introduced the advantages of our university in hosting the Confucius Institute, and reported on the implementation plan of the "Scottish Business Confucius Institute" jointly built by our university and the University of Herrington.
Director Xu Lin fully affirmed and spoke highly of our school's international exchanges and education, the strength of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and the level of teaching infrastructure construction. She hoped that starting from the first Confucius Institute, our university would continue to promote the process of establishing the Confucius Institute in cooperation with the University of West Virginia, actively cultivate "westward" strategic partners, strive to build three fulcrums of our Confucius Institute in Europe, America and Asia, and build a three-dimensional international exchange platform. According to the school leaders, the establishment of Confucius Institute is an important breakthrough in our international education. Our school will live up to the hope of the Hanban and the Municipal Education Commission, make every effort to run the Confucius Institute well, and solidly promote the internationalization strategy of our school.
