Yan Dingxian was born in September 1936 in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. Art film director. Former director of Shanghai art film studio, national first-class director, vice president of China Animation society, director of Shanghai filmmakers Association, member of ASIFA. Chief animation designer of the cartoon "havoc in heaven".

He has been the judge of Golden Rooster Award, former Yugoslavia International Animation Film Festival, Bulgaria International Animation Film Festival, Seoul (now Seoul) International Animation Film Festival and the second International Animation Film Festival in Shanghai, China. In 1985, he joined the International Animation Association and was elected as the director of the Association for two consecutive times.
He is the chief animation designer of the animated film "making havoc in heaven", "Nezha making havoc in the sea", "golden monkey subduing the demon" and other excellent Chinese animation directors.
"Nezha naohai" won the best art award of the third film Hundred Flowers Award in 1980 and the special award of the second Manila International Film Festival in 1983.
Ginseng fruit won the special award of the second Manila International Film Festival in 1983.
"A boy's Brocade" won the honorary award of the 12th karovy fali International Film Festival in Czech Republic in 1960;
"Havoc in heaven" won the special award for short film of the 13th karovy fali International Film Festival in Czech Republic in 1962;

He graduated from the animation department of Beijing Film School in 1953.
