Character evaluation
As a representative of the fourth generation of directors, Zheng Dongtian confirmed the group characteristics of the fourth generation of directors in his works. He put his deep concern into every little action of the role, and even every little prop arrangement was integrated with the director's strict rational thinking and deep emotional expression. Under the influence of traditional culture, his films always express the unique concern for the country and the people of intellectuals, revealing the cultural heritage of the Chinese nation. His works have the characteristics of both western realism aesthetics and Oriental freehand aesthetics. His works are always full of rational thinking, which analyzes the basic qualities of a film director in simple terms. He integrates his understanding of art into the lines. As a filmmaker, he shows deep concern and consideration for the current situation and future of Chinese films (comments by Yu Xiaoxue of Nanjing Normal University).
