" It was this kind of maturity that gave him a strong personality and enabled him to finish middle school in Lanzhou alone later, and to go to Shanghai alone after graduating from high school. In 1955, Zhang Mingyu, who graduated from high school, was inspired by her classmates and was curious about drama performance. Without discussing with her family, she applied to Shanghai drama academy, which she knew nothing about before. With the admission certificate and 60 yuan raised by his family, he sat on the hard seat of the train for three days and three nights, and came from Lanzhou to Shanghai to take the exam. At that time, there was no precedent for him to apply for Shanghai Universities from the northwest region. Because of the particularity of his major, he was allowed to take the exam. Before the announcement, Mr. Zhu Duanjun, a drama director and drama educator who was then the dean of Shanghai Academy of drama, specially told him to wait for the results and not rush home. Before long, Zhang Mingyu was on the list. After that, he lived in Shanghai for more than 50 years.

On campus, he eagerly studied knowledge, systematically and solidly received professional training, and laid a solid foundation for the road of art. However, two years of school life was suddenly broken. In the "anti rightist make-up" movement in early 1958, he was classified as a rightist because he was a student. In 1959, because of this rightist hat, he did not get the diploma with the signature of Xiong Fosi, then president of Shanghai drama academy, famous drama director and drama educator. Twenty years later, the college reissued his diploma, but it was not the signature seal of President Xiong Foxi. The old president had died for many years.

Unexpectedly, Zhang Mingyu, who did not "graduate", was given the opportunity to "continue to study in the class and stay in the experimental drama troupe after study." if she is assigned to other places or leaves the literary and art circles, she will suffer a lot! " Fifty years later, Zhang Mingyu is still grateful for the school's ability to protect him. However, although he stayed in the troupe, because he didn't "graduate", his opportunities to play various major roles were totally different from him. He could only "run to the masses" all day long, and he could not enjoy the salary of 48.5 yuan for other college graduates (the monthly food cost was about 12 yuan at that time), only 30 yuan for living expenses, which was much more miserable than his classmates.

In October 1959, the rightist hat, which he had been wearing for more than a year, was removed. Both he and the leaders of the college felt that a heavy page had been turned over. At this time, President Xiong made an unexpected decision: Zhang Mingyu will play the leading role of Deng Shichang in the drama "Sino Japanese naval battle" directed by him. Zhang Mingyu, who has just taken off his hat, feels dizzy when he is confronted with the sudden opportunity of "playing such an important role in such an important drama". "When the meeting suddenly announced (the decision), I was so surprised that I couldn't believe my ears. I didn't dare to look up all the way out of the meeting," Mr. Zhang recalled with a smile.

"This play has a lot of weight and requires high skill of the actors. There is a play about Deng Shichang venting his anger and depression on the beach after he was dismissed from office. The director asked me to dance a sword. Although I learned Chinese dance in the basic course of the college, I still worked hard in order to dance this whole set of swords well. Teacher Fang Chuanyun, a famous Kunqu Opera master, arranged a whole set of combined movements. He taught them by hand, and I learned by playing with my own life. Besides rehearsing, I spent every day practicing swords whenever I had time It's a sword with a long spike hanging on it. A flower of the sword is dancing out. The spike of the sword must follow straight and can't go around. So it's very difficult. It's really hard to practice at the beginning, but it took a lot of effort, and finally it turned out to be... " Mr. Zhang recalled affectionately that the words still let people feel his earnest energy in those years.

The Sino Japanese War of 1894 achieved great success.
