Pingyuan County, located in the northwest of Shandong Province, is subordinate to Dezhou City. It borders Linyi County and Yucheng City in the East and Southeast, Wucheng and Xiajin in the West and southwest, Gaotang in the south, Decheng and Lingcheng in the north. Pingyuan county is located in the northwest plain of Shandong Province in the lower reaches of the Yellow River. The terrain is flat, and the terrain slowly inclines from southwest to northeast. The climate belongs to the continental monsoon climate of north temperate zone, with four distinct seasons and sufficient sunshine. The administrative area is 1047 square kilometers, with a total population of 470000. It governs 8 towns, 2 townships, 2 streets and 1 Economic Development Zone.
Pingyuan county is the "grain production base", "Beijing Tianjin Vegetable Park", "strong county of animal husbandry", "big pig county" and "hometown of pigeons". It is also the hometown of a group of famous scholars, such as Zhang Quanjing, an expert in Party building and party history, Ren Jiyu, the late master of Chinese culture, and Deng Youmei, a famous writer.

At the beginning of the Western Zhou Dynasty, it was a lower city in the west of Qi state. The city was located in the east of zhangguandian, now Wangmiao township. It was named Pingyuan city because of its plain location.
Historical evolution
Plain county was established in Qin Dynasty. In the sixth year of emperor Gaodi of the Western Han Dynasty (201 BC), Pingyuan county was set up, and its governance was set up in Pingyuan county.
In 551, the county moved from zhangguandian to Yimu county.
At the beginning of Sui Dynasty, it belonged to Dezhou and later to Pingyuan county.
In the middle of Tang Dynasty, it belonged to Dezhou.
From the beginning of Qing Dynasty to the end of Qing Dynasty, it belongs to Jinan government.
At the beginning of the Republic of China, it belonged to Jinan government, Jixi Road, Donglin road and Delin road. In 1928, it was directly under the Shandong provincial government. In 1936, it was the fourth special administration of Shandong Province.
During the Anti Japanese War and the war of liberation, it belonged to Hebei Shandong border region in the early stage, and to Shandong Bohai region in the late stage.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Pingbei county was merged into Pingyuan County in the early 1950's, belonging to Dezhou special area; in 1956, the eastern part of the former en county was divided into Pingyuan county and changed into Liaocheng special area.
In 1961, it returned to Dezhou. Now it belongs to Dezhou area. On December 17, 1994, the State Council approved the abolition of Dezhou Prefecture and Dezhou City and the establishment of prefecture level Dezhou City and Dezhou City. This county belongs to Dezhou City. In 2017, it is suitable to start the work of removing counties and setting up districts in plain counties

Pingyuan county is located in the alluvial plain of the Yellow River in the northwest of Shandong Province, 39 kilometers long from north to South and 48 kilometers wide from east to west, with a total area of 1047 square kilometers. Pingyuan county is a part of North China Liaoning Hebei platform Syncline in the first and second tectonic units of the earth. In the secondary structural unit, the line is roughly drawn from Liutun village of Santang township to Fangsi village of Fangsi town of Yucheng City, the west side of which is the fault depression area of Linqing City, and the east side is the fault depression area of Jiyang County; the triangle extending from Liutun village to the northeast is the chengning uplift area. All the areas are bounded by faults. Among these faults, some have been cut up to the lower part of Neogene, some have been cut off from the boundary between tertiary and Quaternary, and some have Cenozoic basalt along the fault. For example, the NE trending faults passing through Wangmiao Town, Qiancao town and wangfenglou Town, and the south of Encheng town and wangdagua Township all have tertiary basalt.
