Character evaluation
Zhong Menghong presents the theme of social care with strong plot tension in the film. He shows love and warmth through cruel means. His evil and grotesque methods are unique in Taiwan films. In addition, his works have Yang Dechang's "legacy" (review of the morning news, Phoenix Entertainment and Bund pictorial)
As a representative of Taiwan's rising star, Zhong Menghong's works directly face the current social devastation in Taiwan and the spiritual crisis of modern Taiwanese. His "image construction" and "spiritual expression" reflect the wasteland consciousness. He expressed his concern for the contemporary social environment, as well as the living state and real and complex inner feelings of the people as the main body of the society with modernist creative concept and realistic shooting techniques. He basically takes the real space as the foundation, records the special side of the space through the camera, and explores the relationship between the characters and the space. Different from many directors, when dealing with "death", he does not directly express it as a present tense, but constructs it in the past tense to show the influence of the past death subject on the present people, so as to show the living state and spiritual crisis of modern people. He wrote about Taiwan's natural environment and social environment. In particular, he expressed his anxiety about "Taiwan" through the camera's mirror record of the barren natural environment.
