You Lei, born in Shanghai in 1926, is an action designer and director of Chinese art films. In his youth, he was a staff member of Shanghai Japanese Hemp Industry Co., Ltd., Jinghua Industry Co., Ltd., Shanghai Zhengyan publishing house and Shanghai wave publishing house.

In his youth, he was a staff member of Shanghai Japanese Hemp Industry Co., Ltd., Jinghua Industry Co., Ltd., Shanghai Zhengyan publishing house and Shanghai wave publishing house. After meeting the puppet artist Yu zheguang, he took part in the performance of "Shanghai puppet theater society", and has been inseparable with puppet art ever since. In 1947, he joined Shanghai puppet theater. In 1950, he entered Shanghai art film studio and successively worked as an action designer and director. He has participated in the action design of more than 30 puppet films, such as magic pen, Princess peacock, who sings best, etc.

Among the films directed by him, the puppet film of the same name adapted from the famous children's literature work "chicken crowing in the middle of the night" is the most outstanding. In 1980, it won the second prize of national children's literature and art creation.
