Wu Qi is mainly engaged in the characterization of special polymers, the conformational changes and assembly of polymer chains, and the study of polymer gels.
Character experience
He was born in Wuhu, Anhui Province on March 17, 1955. When I was young, I went to Qingshan Street (now Yuhong) kindergarten in Wuhu City at that time. In 1961, he entered the first Central Primary School of Wuhu City and entered the pilot class of teaching reform of six-year system to five-year system in the city. In 1968, he entered Dongfanghong middle school. In the spring of 1970, he continued to study in Wuhu No.1 middle school. In 1973, he was assigned to Wuhu Education Bureau to do some simple administrative work. At the beginning of 1974, he was assigned to Wuhu No.20 middle school as a chemistry teacher, and cooperated with the Secretary of the Communist Youth League to do the work of the Communist Youth League. On December 10, 1977, he took part in the college entrance examination. In 1982, he graduated from the Department of modern chemistry, University of science and technology of China, majoring in chemical physics. In February, he went to the State University of New York at Stony Brook to learn from Professor Zhu Pengnian. in September 1987, he received a Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and continued to work as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of chemistry until May 1989. from 1989 to 1992, he worked for BASF company in Germany: first for fellow of Humboldt Foundation, under the guidance of Dr. Dieter horn, he cooperated with Dr. Wolfgang schrof for one year; later, he was permanently employed as director of laser light scattering Laboratory of solid and polymer physics department and dispersion system group. in 1992, after resigning his permanent position in BASF, Germany, he went to the Chinese University of Hong Kong to teach as a lecturer in English system. In 1995, he was employed as a professor in the Department of Chemical Physics, University of science and technology of China. from 1996 to 1999, Professor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In 1996, he was supported by the national fund for Distinguished Youth. since 1999, Professor of chemistry, Chinese University of Hong Kong. In 2000, he was professor of chemistry at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In 2003, he was elected academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2004, he was the director of low dimensional physics and Chemistry Research Department of Hefei National Laboratory of microscale material science. since January 2005, he has been employed as Dean of School of chemistry, University of science and technology of China.
Main achievements
Achievements in scientific research
Wuqi determined the molecular weight distribution and chain conformation of polytetrafluoroethylene. It was observed that the linear long chain of polytetrafluoroethylene changed with the properties of solvent. It is revealed that chain folding is not an "all or nothing" process and there is a "melting ball" state. Some unique views on the stability mechanism of assembled aggregates of polymer chains are put forward. In 1996, supported by the outstanding youth fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Wu Qi established the laboratory of macromolecular colloids and solutions at the University of science and technology of China, and carried out research on macromolecular physics and colloidal chemistry. as of October 30, 2017, Wu Qi has published more than 260 papers (including 94 macrolecules) in JACS, accounts of chemical research, advanced polymer science, Physical Review Letters and other journals.
