Early experience
On August 2, 1961, he was born into a Korean family in Xingfu village in the eastern suburb of Beijing. His father regretted that his son could not be born on the day of army day, and changed his birthday from August 2 to August 1. Cui Jian's original name was Cui Jianjun. Later, Cui Jian thought that the name had no personality, so he changed it to Cui Jian. Cui Jian's father Cui xiongji is a professional trumpet player, and his mother Zhang Shunhua is a member of the Korean dance company. His parents' Chinese proficiency is not very high, which also caused Cui Jian's stuttering in his childhood. With the transfer of Cui xiongji's work, his family has lived in Xingfu village, Dengshikou, air administration and cultural troupe, and Air Force Academy. Cui Jian grew up in his father's army environment throughout his childhood. Cui xiongji said that Cui Jian had a strong desire for knowledge about "things he didn't understand" since childhood. And often observe and think alone. "
In 1975, Cui Jian began to learn to play trumpet. Cui Jian showed his talent in writing when he was in primary school. His teacher once suggested to his father to give up music and specialize in literature, but Cui Jian himself refused.
In 1976, Cui Jian learned "Bellman Trumpet Concerto". The art troupe of Shenyang Military Region and the art troupe of Beijing Military Region recruit trumpet players in the society. Cui Jian's performance has won great praise from the examiners. Shenyang Military Region sent a transfer order to recruit Cui Jian, but Cui Jian's mother opposed it. However, the Beijing military region literary and Art Troupe directly went to Cui Jian to talk with him, because there was no need to leave Beijing, and obtained the permission of Cui Jian himself and his parents. But it was rejected by the school on the ground of influencing the "movement of going to the mountains and the countryside".
In 1979, Cui Jian graduated from middle school and was unemployed at home. Soon afterwards, the engineering corps and the General Political Department asked Cui Jian to help blow the trumpet.
In 1981, Cui Jian became a trumpet player of Beijing Symphony Orchestra. At that time, the Cultural Revolution had just ended, and most industries stayed more than ten years ago. China's official musical instruments are not plugged in, and there is a blank in the field of modern music, such as rock, pop and jazz. Cui Jian's Beijing Song and dance troupe divided its members into classical and folk music according to the only literary form at that time. Cui Jian was responsible for the trumpet part of classical string music, but it didn't take up too much of his time, because he was the third trumpet. Generally, he only needed a trumpet for a performance, and he didn't often play. Facing the free time of the league members, Zhou Yaping, a drummer, quickly came up with a way to make money. He focused on a large number of foreign students and experts who came to China because of the reform and opening up. He contacted the diplomatic staff hotel, which is a special institution providing accommodation and catering for foreigners, and formed his own small band to play songs from Japanese, European and American movies for them. Cui Jian was invited in because he could sing "straw hat song" in English. At that time, most of the singers came from folk music and only knew the singing style of Li Guyi or Jiang Dawei, but Cui Jian was different. He could very accurately imitate the singing style of those English singers or Liu Wenzheng, which was rare at that time. Different from the rock musicians of the same period, Cui Jian was not infatuated with heavy metals at that time, but with jazz when he was in Beijing Song and dance troupe. His freedom and improvisation made Cui Jian believe that the playing method should not be the pressure of artists. Cui Jian heard tapes brought into China by foreign tourists and students. He began to learn to play guitar and soon sang in public.
In 1983, Cui Jian wrote his first song, I love my guitar.

In the process of approval of his solo work "nothing", Wang Kun, who was in charge of the Oriental Song and dance troupe at that time, was worried because Cui Jian's singing style was quite different from the aesthetic habits at that time. However, after two rehearsals, he formally agreed that Cui Jian would be on the stage at the party.

On December 3, the concert "ten years of golden melody in the new era" was held in Beijing. Cui Jian's award-winning work is "nothing", but he sang "a piece of red cloth". According to the rules, each singer only sings one piece, so he decided to go on stage with his guitar alone without a band. For the first time in this concert, he showed himself blindfolded with red cloth.
In February 1989, Cui Jian created and completed rock on the new Long March, which was published by the then China Tourism audio and video publishing house, and then published in Hong Kong and Taiwan. He won the double platinum Record Award in Taiwan and the platinum Record Award in Hong Kong. The title of all overseas versions of the album has been changed to nothing.
