Bao Hanlin studied in Huangren academy when he was in middle school. At that time, he began to perform drama. During the Anti Japanese War, he participated in the drama club and performed thunderstorm, sunrise, Camellia girl and Wu Zetian. He studied in England after the war. After returning to Hong Kong, he served as an education officer in the Correctional Services Department and served in Stanley Prison for many years. In his spare time, he still plays in the troupe from time to time. In addition to directing, screenwriting and translating scripts, Bao Hanlin is also the chairman.
As early as the 1960s, Bao Hanlin began to take part in the film industry. In 1975, he joined TVB as an artist and co starred with Huang Xingxiu in "a house of two and three". Later, he first performed in Jiayi TV, and after the closure of Jiayi TV, he switched to Li's TV. Most of his performances were filmed on Li's TV. Even if Li's TV changed hands to Asia TV, he almost never performed on wireless. At that time, in popular costume dramas, he usually played Royal relatives or prime ministers. For example, in 1980, he played longkeduo in "Da Nei Qun Ying" and in 1986, he played Prime Minister Wang Wan in "Qin Shi Huang".
Bao Hanlin returned to the film industry in the 1980s. She was most familiar with playing "Chen Jincheng" in "God of gamblers" in 1989, and playing opposite role with Chow Yun fat, the leading actor. Later, he played the same role in "gambler" and "God of gamblers 2". At that time, he was nearly eighty years old.
At the end of 1990's, Bao Hanlin faded out of the stage and mainly translated plays. Since 2000, he has immigrated to the UK to live a retirement life. On July 12, 2007, she died in London at the age of 91.
