Rao Ningxin

Rao Ningxin, male, is a master of Guzheng in southern China. He was born in 1941 in Dapu, Guangdong Province. Guzheng performer and educator is known as the successor of the master of Han music and the innovator of yuezheng music.

His father was Rao Congju, a famous musician of Han music in Guangdong Province. Rao Ningxin was enlightened by his father when he was young. He studied dulcimer, guzheng, Han music and other musical instruments with his father. He performed in Beijing in 1956 and was received by the president and Premier. In 1965, he graduated from Guangzhou Conservatory of music. He studied with Su Wenxian, a Chaozhou zither player, and Luo Jiuxiang, a Han zither player. He was also instructed by master Cao Zheng, Zhao yuzhai, and Liu Tianyi.

He has been teaching for more than 40 years, and his disciples are all over the country, the United States, Canada, Japan and Southeast Asia. Many people have won awards in various kinds of music competitions. In addition to professional teaching, he is often invited to perform in various parts of the country and overseas, and participate in various academic exchange activities. He has compiled a large number of Chinese and Cantonese Zheng music teaching materials, which has made an important contribution to the popularization and promotion of national music. The book "Introduction to guzheng", compiled in 1988, has been printed many times and sold well at home and abroad.
