Early experience
Li Jinguang (1907-1993), formerly known as Li Jinhao, was born in Xiangtan, Hunan Province. He was the seventh of the "eight Li heroes" in Xiangtan city at that time. His other brothers were all celebrities in modern China, pioneers and founders of Chinese pop music.
In 1916, he went to Beijing to study with his father. In 1919, he went to Shanghai with his father and entered the primary school affiliated to his second brother, Li Jinhui, who was the principal of Mandarin School. In July of the same year, he returned to Changsha and studied in the first normal school. The head teacher was Mao Zedong. In September, he entered the high school attached to Hunan Institute of technology. After graduation, he went to university in the 14th year of the Republic of China. He entered university in 1925. He was admitted to Huangpu Military Academy in 1926 and participated in the northern expedition. He went to Shanghai in 1927 and joined the Chinese song and Dance Troupe (later Mingyue song and dance troupe and Lianhua song and dance troupe) until it was dissolved in the 22nd year of the Republic of China. Mingyue song and dance troupe, which was restored in the 24th year of the Republic of China, was an actor, composer and conductor. He joined the Chinese song and dance troupe headed by Li Jinhui and became the most important successor of the "Li school" songs. In 1939, he was appointed music director of EMI record company and composed music for various film companies in Shanghai. Li Jinguang's songs are fast and of high quality. Hundreds of popular songs are his works, such as night fragrance, Shangri La, red copy, picking Binglang, the wind of May, exhortation, motherly heart, crazy world, star heart seal, and it's not too late to meet. Among them, the song "nocturnal fragrance" sung by Li Xianglan was highly appreciated by Japanese composer ryunoichi Fujimoto. After the lyrics were translated into Japanese, it became popular in Japan.
Mr. Li wrote many famous songs for the most popular singers in Shanghai at that time, such as Zhou Xuan, Bai Guang, Bai Hong (his ex-wife) and Li Xianglan (shuko Yamaguchi, the original singer of "nocturnal fragrance"). After the liberation of the whole country, he still stayed in Shanghai as a record worker. After 1949, after the founding of the people's Republic of China, he worked as a sound director in a Chinese record factory and was ordered to retire in 1970. In 1985, he returned to Shanghai Branch of China record company to sort out the popular songs of the 1930s and 1940s. In 1988, he resigned in his old age. He worked in Shanghai record company, producing more than 2000 records and tapes of operas and songs. He was the first chief conductor of China Central Ballet Symphony Orchestra. He has recorded more than 7000 operas and songs. "Let's go skating together" created in 1986 won the first prize of popular song of Shanghai TV station.
Li Jinguang and Chen Gexin are considered to be the most outstanding representatives in the mature period of Chinese pop music, with the reputation of "king of songs" and "immortal of songs" respectively.
In his later years, Li Xianglan, a Japanese singer, visited him in Shanghai and took him to Japan to meet with Japanese fans of "nocturnal incense". Mr. Li was a little late to comfort him. Before and after the Spring Festival in 1993, CCTV broadcast the TV series farewell, Li Xianglan, which runs through the whole drama with the melody of "night fragrance", making a sensation all over the country. Unfortunately, just before the show was broadcast, Li Jinguang died of illness in Shanghai at the age of 86.
