Born in Nanjing, China, Li Biao began to study music at the age of five. As a child, he showed special talent and interest in music. In 1982, he entered the high school attached to Beijing Central Conservatory of music to study percussion instruments. When he graduated in 1988, as the first public percussion student in China, he was selected by the Ministry of culture of China to study with Professor srukiyev at the Tchaikovsky National Conservatory of music in Moscow, the Soviet Union. He graduated with a master's degree in music in Russia. In 1995, he came to Germany with a scholarship from the German national cultural foundation and completed his master's degree under the guidance of Professor sadero of Munich National Conservatory of music.
As a student, he has won many awards in many music competitions, including the silver award in the first international dabrushen percussion competition in 1993 and the grand prize in the international Alma modern music festival in 1995. He is the first Chinese percussion player to win an award in an international music competition.
As a concert soloist, Li Biao plays a wide range of percussion instruments, from percussion works of different periods to percussion concertos. His repertoire includes many percussion works created for him by composers inspired by his performance. Li Biao plays a wide range of percussion instruments, from marimba to Latin, Asian and African percussion instruments. Under Li Biao's proposal and hosting, three Beijing International percussion music festivals were held in Beijing from 2000 to 2004. The successful Beijing percussion music festival has become the most influential professional event of percussion music in Asia. In order to accelerate the development of percussion music in China, he was invited by the Central Conservatory of music to become a professor of percussion music in 2003. At the same time, Li Biao began to teach at Hans Eisler National Conservatory of music in Berlin in 2003, and was employed as a professor of percussion music by the Conservatory in 2006, becoming the first Chinese percussion musician to serve as a professor in the world's top Conservatory of music.
He has played percussion Concertos in the most influential classical music column "attaching importance to classical music" of German TV station 2 for many times, and recorded percussion solo works for many European TV stations and radio stations. EMI, teldec and tezhiweiler record company have recorded his CDs.
