Album introduction
After three years of composing, I suddenly became a singer. It's false to say that I'm not in a contradictory mood. In the past three years, I have arranged and produced music for countless singers or customers. When they asked me to compose a style that was not suitable for them, or the style was not "commercial", I would give them appropriate suggestions. Now, it's my turn to arrange music for my album. I really have an unspeakable contradiction in my heart. Should I stick to my non mainstream style, or should I adapt the "easily accepted" style to meet the market demand? Make up some songs suitable for your own sound quality, or keep the style you are good at? I struggled for a long time.
I've seen the newcomer recording in the studio, his shy smile shows his humility; I've also seen the veteran singer pick up the microphone, white but confident. In fact, what is the ultimate goal of every singer? Is it a taste of hair piece, or is it singing and dancing to meet the market demand?
Frankly speaking, in this era of booming computer industry, as long as you know the basic computer operation, you can make your own music. If you have a decent appearance, you are more qualified to be a singer. Therefore, I don't care what others do, what they have done, or what they haven't done; I only care whether I have made my own music, and how long can my music last?
For this reason, I have to make a little compromise and integrate some "mainstream" elements. I hope my music will have a chance to get close to you and give you a space to taste my music. My request is quite simple - I didn't want to be popular. I just want to turn every note that jumps in my heart into a voice and sing it to you. As long as one person is willing to listen, I will continue to do it.
Serene, a new Malaysian female songwriter, has decided to put on a mask in her publicity campaign in the next three months for the reason that "people can't judge their appearance"!
In the album I'm not serene, Zhan Xuelin wants to tell others that the serene they see is not the real serene. "We often don't really think about the facts behind everything, or even judge people by their appearance," she said
As for the music arrangement of this album, nine of the songs were arranged by her, and the remaining one was arranged by a Hong Kong arranger. As for lyrics, she thinks that she is not her strong point, so she is only responsible for lyrics of one song in the album, and she has asked a group of friends to help her with the other nine songs, which is very consistent with the contrast idea of the album.
