Ma Ji, formerly known as Ma Shuhuai, was born on August 2, 1934 in the home of an ordinary businessman in Beijing. When he was in primary school, he sold ice nuclei to supplement his family. in 1987, Ma Ji got acute myocardial infarction in Changsha. He was hospitalized for three months before he was discharged.
