Regionalization
Since the 1950s, Chinese government and academia have been exploring and putting forward the method and scheme of China's regional division. For example, in the early days of the founding of the people's Republic of China, the division of coastal and inland areas, the division of "three lines" for national defense, the division of Eastern, central and western regions based on physical geography, the six major economic regions based on Economic Geography (northeast, middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River, middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, Southeast, southwest and northwest), and the seven major economic regions (northeast, northwest, North China and China) Eight economic zones (northeast, Bohai rim, Middle Yellow River, Yangtze River Delta, middle Yangtze River, Southeast, southwest and northwest) are divided. In 2003, researcher Li Shantong and Hou Yongzhi from the development research center of the State Council completed the "Analysis on the characteristics of China's (mainland) regional social and economic development" report, which proposed eight major social and economic regions: Northeast, northern coastal, eastern coastal, southern coastal, middle reaches of the yellow River, middle reaches of the Yangtze River, southwest and great northwest.
If we consider the differences between the north and the south, China can be divided into the South and the north; if we consider the differences between the East and the west, China can be divided into the East, the middle and the West. If we consider the differences between the north and the South and between the East and the west, China can be divided into the north, the South and the West. If we consider the management elements, the regional division of China should respect the integrity of the administrative region.
In the first layer, the whole country is divided into three large areas (or four large areas) including the North (northeast, due north, northwest), the South and the West; among them, the western region is a collection of the northwest of the north and the southwest of the south.
In the second layer, the north is divided into three regions: the northeast, the North China coast and the middle reaches of the Yellow River; the south is divided into three regions: the East China coast, the South China coast and the middle reaches of the Yangtze River; and the west is divided into two regions: the northwest and the southwest.
The division of the second level is also based on the division of China's eastern, central and western regions. Among them, Eastern China is divided into four regions: Northeast China (including Liaoning in the East, Jilin and Heilongjiang in the middle), North China coastal area, East China coastal area and South China coastal area; Central China is divided into two regions, the middle reaches of the Yellow River and the middle reaches of the Yangtze River; Western China is divided into two regions, southwest and northwest.
