Industry evaluation
Since he immigrated to Canada in 1989, Gu Xiong has become one of the most important multi-media artists in Canada through his own artistic practice and creative achievements. His art is rooted in the history of Canadian Chinese, focusing on the migration situation of contemporary Chinese scattered around the world and the great changes of contemporary China between the East and the West, The appeal of his installation, photography and video art comes from the personalized integration and blending of traditional sketch and easel painting with new media art language, as well as his long-term persistence in creating thoughtful conceptual works, which can also be accepted and loved by the public, The strength, ideology and attraction of Gu Xiong's works come from his works, which are widely involved in the changes and unique thinking in the political, social and cultural fields of today's world. The unconstrained and uncontrollable changes he proposed, as well as his commitment to the extensive connection between art and the public, are the most important areas in contemporary art practice. --Andrew hunt, curator, Waterloo Museum of art, Canada
