Liang Mingyue, a composer and musicologist, was born in HuangGuo, Henan Province in 1941. Since childhood, he studied guzheng with his father Liang Zaiping and Guqin with Hu Yingtang.
In 1957, he studied violin and theoretical composition in the Music Department of Taiwan Art College. In 1964, he studied in the music college of the University of Hawaii. Later, he transferred to UCLA to study ethnomusicology from professors SIG and hood. He obtained master's and doctor's degrees successively. During the 1970s, he served in many European and American universities for a short term and lectured. In the 1980s, he was a professor in the Department of music at the University of Maryland in the United States. The major works include "nine clouds", "Symphony", "Yiyu" and so on. His main works include the study of guqin, the tonglun of Chinese music, the study of Jiang Baishi's Duqu, and the national music in the long history.
