Entrepreneurial history
Huang Jiajia's first venture began in 2007. At that time, Huang Jiajia and Shu Ting, who were about to graduate from Tsinghua University, saw the market opportunity of online language training. However, considering that the Chinese market was not yet mature, they put the "first stop" of language training in Japan. By the time Huang Jiajia and Shu Ting faded out of talkchina in 2011, this Chinese language training website had already ranked in the top three of Japanese Chinese language training websites.
In October 2011, 51talk was only one month away from its launch, but the funds were not available. On a dark and windy night, Huang Jiajia and other founders secretly lurked in the dark Yanyuan of Peking University. With the pioneering spirit of young people, they forcibly stopped the car of Xu Xiaoping, the founder and well-known investor of New Oriental, who came back from the speech of Peking University. Huang Jiajia submitted the business plan carefully completed by the team to Xu Xiaoping, but in the end, the plan fell into the sea. After that, Huang Jiajia got the opportunity to communicate with Zhenge Fund (founded by Xu Xiaoping), and finally used 20 or 30 minutes to pry Xu Xiaoping's investment purse, and finally successfully endorsed 51talk. 51talk became one of the earliest investment projects of Zhenge fund phase II, and was invested by several well-known institutions at home and abroad, such as Shunwei capital, DCM, Sequoia, etc.
"Starting a business is a kind of fun and a kind of enjoyment of the process." Huang Jiajia said with a smile that he was "three no entrepreneurship", "no money, no one, and no so-called industry rules". At the beginning, there were only three people. The "customer service" that was once praised by users was my professional identity during that period.
51talk, founded in 2011, is headquartered in Beijing with branches and offices in Shanghai, Wuhan and the Philippines.
According to the third quarter financial report released by 51talk in December 2017, the number of active students in 51talk quarter reached 176600, the number of foreign teachers at the end of the quarter reached 14800, and the cash income from K-12 students accounted for 76.3% of the total cash income.
