Rough life
An indissoluble bond with Peking Opera
Li Shiji was born in a scholarly family in May 1933. His grandfather was an official of the Qing Dynasty. A chance made her contact with Peking Opera for the first time, and from then on, she became puzzled all her life. At that time, little Shiji, who was only four or five years old, always liked to sit under the table of eight immortals and peep at his aunt's learning Su San Qi Jie. Day after day, instead of being bothered, she learned all of them unconsciously and could perform fluently on stage. Although she was regarded as the base of opera by adults, she was not allowed to really learn opera, because in the old society, opera was classified as a lower class business, so Xiao Shiji, who was fond of singing opera, had been listening to the Opera under the eight immortals table and "stealing art" until she was one or two years old.
Father daughter relationship with master
In 1945, at the age of 12, Li Shiji met Master Cheng Yanqiu on an accidental occasion. At that time, some people said that she "looks like Master Cheng, why don't you be a dry daughter?" it was such a joke that she was taken seriously by Master Cheng. The next day, Mr. Cheng came to Li Shiji's home in Shanghai with a special gift to visit her parents. The master's sudden visit is a big surprise for Li Shiji, a fan's home. For Mr. Cheng, "I respect him from my heart. I don't know how to do it. The adults quickly asked me to kowtow to the master, and I kowtow. I recognized him as my godfather, and thus confirmed the relationship between father and daughter."
Since then, Li Shiji began to learn Peking Opera formally and systematically with Mr. Cheng. However, it's not easy to be an apprentice. Once Xiao Shiji occasionally forgets his words or sings wrong, he will surely suffer from his godfather's use of a mahogany ruler. When she was young, she was also very hardworking and hardworking. When she practiced walking, she would break a pair of shoes in a week, from paper clips, to the top of the book, to the top of the bowl, and even to a bowl of water on her head. At this time, Mr. Cheng, who is skillful and skillful, will sew a new pair of shoes for his beloved dry daughter, and mail them to Shiji in Shanghai from Beijing. Shiji is full of gratitude and emotion, and redoubles his efforts to continue to practice. Shiji shouts in his voice. He shouts to the jar for fear of affecting his neighbors. When he practices reciting yutangchun, he pastes a piece of rice paper on the wall and sprays it full with spitting star. In addition to learning from Mr. Cheng, under the arrangement of Mr. Cheng, Shiji has to learn martial arts, Huadan, Kunqu Opera and so on from other famous teachers. Every day, he practices from four in the morning to nearly ten or eleven in the evening, which is extremely hard.
A lifelong regret
Although he has studied drama with Master Cheng Yanqiu all his life, Li Shiji is always rejected by Master Cheng when he asks for formal apprenticeship. He can't bear to let his beloved daughter do this job. Therefore, apprenticeship has gradually become a knot in Li Shiji's heart.
After liberation, Master Cheng, Li Shiji and a group of other outstanding performing artists were sent to Moscow as representatives of the literary backbone of new China to participate in the World Youth Festival. Before leaving, Premier Zhou Enlai, who was in charge of the activity, inadvertently learned Li Shiji's long cherished wish for many years, so he promised her with care. After the event, he personally hosted the ceremony for her and Master Cheng. Li Shiji was very moved and embarked on the journey with full joy.
The performance was very successful. Although the living conditions in a foreign country were extremely difficult, Li Shiji still insisted on it in order to wait for her wish to become a teacher after returning home. However, just after the performance, when she was busy with her new performance, she suddenly received the news of the master's death. The sudden death of the master was like a bolt from the blue for Li Shiji. He was at a loss and rushed to the hospital, lying on the master with tears pouring down. In this way, Li Shiji's wish to become a teacher has become a permanent regret, in her own words, "a lifetime of hope, a lifetime of sustenance, shattered.".
Give up medicine and become an artist
In 1952, despite Cheng Yanqiu's opposition to Li Shiji's abandoning medicine and becoming an artist, she resolutely studied in Shanghai Second Medical University and came to Beijing to set up her own opera troupe. She performed through the then Peking Opera Union (where she often performed were old opera gardens such as Jixiang, Chang'an, Guanghe, etc.) and got a good response.
In 1956, Li Shiji joined the Beijing Opera Troupe. As a young actress, she often performed with Ma Lianliang and other masters, and was guided by many famous teachers. In addition, she has also performed for leaders in Zhongnanhai.
the Ten Year Calamity
During the period of the four Qing movement, Li Shiji spent ten months beside the great wall and also went to do farm work. But she insisted on practicing her voice and covered the doors and windows with cotton quilts to prevent others from hearing her. Later, he went to the drama academy to teach students and sang a lot of modern drama. Because she kept practicing, she could keep her original level when she came back to the stage later.
Improvement and innovation
In 1976, at the Great Hall of the people, she performed her first solo performance "butterfly loves flower" after smashing the gang of four. Although ten years of catastrophe has taken away the best years of her artistic life, she is still singing and glorious.
When she returns to the stage, she often thinks about such a problem: if Beijing Opera wants to develop, it must innovate. In 1979, she performed "Suolin bag" in the workers' club. When the curtain call light was on, she saw a wave of applause from the audience with white hair, and she firmly believed: we must turn the audience with white hair into the audience with black hair, and we must find the audience lost in the "Cultural Revolution"! The next day, she went to the theater to investigate and see when the young audience would applaud. She also visited young people and asked them what kind of opera they like. After investigation, she believes that most of Beijing Opera is traditional opera, which is far away from the younger generation because of its slow singing rhythm and implicit expression. In the later days, she devoted herself to the reform and exploration of Cheng school art, and carried out the reform and exploration in practice, which achieved good results. Over the years, facing the pressure of numerous public opinions, she has kept silent, because she does not want to waste her time on worthless things. Instead, she closes the door and puts her energy on art, silently enduring slander and rumors.
In art, she didn't create anything for herself. Her main job is to adapt and organize teacher Cheng Yanqiu's works, so that they can be used in the new era
