Brief introduction of battle encouragement (Sangzhi battle encouragement)
Applicant: Sangzhi County, Hunan Province
Battle drum dance is a kind of collective dance performed by Sangzhi Bai men holding battle drum (slender waist long drum, or Zhang drum). It can be seen in the festival celebration, harvest celebration, God wandering, temple fair, folk sacrifice and other folk activities in Sangzhi Baijia village. Performers dance with percussion instruments such as drums, gongs and cymbals. The number of performers varies from 6 to 10. Onlookers can also improvise. People who don't have drums can pick up sticks, cigarette sticks and other utensils and dance with them. When the dance was full of affection, the audience kept shouting "Oh, Ho" to cheer up, and the scene was very warm.
Sangzhi Bai nationality came from Dali, Yunnan Province in the late Song Dynasty and early Yuan Dynasty. It has a history of more than 700 years. According to local legend, battle drum dance was created by the ancestors of Sangzhi Bai people, such as Gu JunWan, Wang Pengkai and Zhong Qianyi, who took their children and grandchildren to avoid the war and settled in maidiping, mahekou and other areas of Sangzhi. At the beginning of Ming Dynasty, the population of Sangzhi Bai area increased and the battle drum dance developed, and then there were "thirty two series" and other dance routines.
Battle drum dance is mainly spread in seven Bai nationality townships of mahekou, maidiping, furongqiao, hongjiaguan, ZOUMAPING, Linxihe and liujiaping, as well as more than ten townships of guandiping and Ruitapu in Waiban county. Before 1949, most Bai men were able to dance and inspire. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Sangzhi ZhangGu once participated in the provincial literature and art performance, but it was banned during the "Cultural Revolution". It was not until 1984 when seven Bai nationality townships were established in Sangzhi County that this traditional folk dance of Bai nationality became active again.
