In the book of changes, there is a saying that "the dance of drum is to do its best", which not only vividly reflects the long history of Chinese encouragement, but also outlines its main functions. From the original "beating the stone, supporting the stone and leading a hundred animals to dance" to the later generations, the Chinese drum dance has always been in the same continuous line. There are various forms of Chinese drum dance, which are widely distributed. There are many kinds of dances. Among them, the more typical forms are waist drum dance, broken drum dance, flower drum dance, wood drum dance, long drum dance, flat drum dance, copper drum dance, dragon drum dance, fan drum dance, yellow mud drum dance, elephant foot dance, monkey drum dance, flower whip dance, bamboo drum dance, Bell Dance, sheep skin dance and so on.
Dazuo drum, formerly known as "Che Gu Ting", is a popular traditional dance of fishing village in Shitang Town, Wenling City, Zhejiang Province. It is said that Dazuo drum has been spread to Shitang along with the fishermen in Huian, Fujian Province for more than 300 years.
At first, eight or nine people performed the big drum, then developed to dozens of people, up to 60 people at most. In Shitang, there are many kinds of drum performing troupes, such as old people's troupe, Youth Troupe and Youth Troupe. When encountering major activities in cities, towns and villages, they can participate in the performances at any time.
There are horse squat jump step, wave swing step, shoulder shaking four-way step, small step and other dance steps for drum playing. The formation changes are very rich. The commonly used formation patterns include "one arrow around eight", "double arrows turning waves", "double arrow gate", "Yuanbao array", "half moon around eight characters", "rolling waves turning flowers", "ten gate array", "Longmen array" and so on. There are two forms of drum playing: field performance and marching performance. During the performance, the actors hold musical instruments and play while walking. The action is rough and humorous. Except for the drummer, the other 89 people are free to play. Two suonas play the main melody, accompanied by percussion instruments such as wooden fish, big cymbals, small cymbals, bronze bell drums, moon gongs and small gongs. The most unique feature of drum performance is that men disguise themselves as women. During the performance, the actor's face was made up with heavy colors, his head was decorated with sheep horn and big earrings, and he dressed up as a "Fisherman" barefoot, twisting while walking, which is rare in han dance.
There are many repertoires for drum playing, among which the programs such as "Taizhou Bay fishing drum", "Ruoshan drum playing" and "Sun Drum" adapted from its original materials have participated in performances of Zhejiang Province, prefecture and city for many times and won awards.
Big drum playing is a kind of "special story" in the festive team, and it is also the only "special story" preserved. Its artistic style is unique. It is valuable for the study of folk dance and customs in Zhejiang Province, as well as the migration of human settlements and cultural communication.
With the advent of the information age and the development of local industry, as well as the differences between the new and old cultures, the living space of Dazhou drum is shrinking day by day, and the inheritance is very difficult. At present, Dazhou drum is in an endangered state, which needs urgent rescue and protection.
