Introduction to gongs and drums Art (Hancheng Xinggu)
Applicant: Hancheng City, Shaanxi Province
Gong and drum art is a common form of folk instrumental music in China. It is widely distributed in Hebei, Tianjin, Shanxi, Shanghai, Henan, Hubei, Shanxi and other places. Although the musical instruments used in different places are different, most of them are high volume percussion instruments such as gongs, drums, cymbals and cymbals. The rhythm is more and more vivid, the performance scene is spectacular, and the artistic style is majestic and powerful. They are mainly performed in various folk auspicious occasions and ceremonies.
Hancheng Xinggu, commonly known as "bangguzi", is a popular folk music form in Hancheng City, Shaanxi Province. Hancheng drum has a long history. It is said that after the Yuan Dynasty destroyed the Jin Dynasty, Mongolian Knights played gongs and drums in Hancheng to celebrate the victory. The people of Hancheng followed and imitated it. After a long period of inheritance and development, it formed a folk drum music with local characteristics.
During the drum performance in Hancheng, the drummer wore a helmet and a military skirt to cover the saddle. He rode in a squatting crotch style and beat the drum on his back. At the scene of the performance, the drum array was lined up, the flag was waved, a hundred drums were singing together, and the sound shook the sky, showing a magnificent momentum. The sound drum posture and strong drum beat are like the roar of the Yellow River and the galloping of ten thousand horses, which give people a great spiritual shock. Drummers are in a state of ecstasy and dance wildly, entering the best state of drummer and cymbal.
In history, Hancheng Xinggu was used as a drum music for worshiping gods. During festivals and praying for rain, the drum music was always heard. On weekdays, when the peasants facing the Loess and back to the sky beat gongs and drums to offer sacrifices to the gods, they immediately felt a sense of holiness with sloping helmets on their heads and yellow Mandarin jackets. Hancheng Xinggu is a wonderful work of local folk gongs and drums, which has high artistic and cultural value. In recent years, the introduction of huagan team makes Hancheng Xinggu performance more rich and mature. More than a dozen skilled local gongs and drums teams are active in different occasions, and outstanding drummers, gongs and cymbals emerge in an endless stream. They have been hailed as "king of drums" and "king of gongs" by the people. At present, there are still many problems in the training of performance team and the investment of funds in Hancheng Xinggu, and the lack of attention to the inheritance work leads to the decrease of inheritors. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the protection to promote the better inheritance and development of this ancient folk drum music.
