Applicant: Wuhe County, Anhui Province
Wuhe folk songs are mainly popular in the lower part of the middle reaches of Huaihe River in the northeast of Anhui Province.
Wuhe folk songs had a long history and flourished in Ming Dynasty. There are many kinds of folk songs and rich repertoire, which are mainly composed of minor, labor songs and Yangko (Tiange). According to census statistics, there are more than 160 folk songs, of which minor is the most and the most characteristic.
Wuhe is located at the junction of Huaibei, Huainan and Northern Jiangsu. It is not only influenced by the Central Plains culture, but also infiltrated by the Wu and Chu cultures. Therefore, Wuhe folk songs not only have the characteristics of Huaibei tune, bold and heroic, but also have the rhythm of smooth, small wave style melody lines, showing a strong lyricism, reflecting the artistic characteristics of combining hardness and softness. The performance of Wuhe folk songs is mainly composed of singing and singing, including solo, duet, rap and small singing. Most of the modes are symbolic modes, but there are many minor modes alternating with each other in the melody. For example, "Ode to Huaibei in four seasons" starts with the palace mode, then turns to the symbolic mode, and the last sentence ends with the feather tone, giving people a sudden sense of freshness. This rich mode color has formed a unique style in Wuhe folk songs. Wuhe folk songs used to be mainly composed of Qingchang, and then gradually developed into accompaniment singing. The accompaniment instruments mainly include erhu, suona, dizi, Sheng, Bangzi, etc. Among them, erhu, commonly known as "ermongzi", is made of snake skin and black fish skin. It is also accompanied by homemade Liuqin instead of erhu.
Wuhe folk songs include picking pomegranate and beating vegetable moss, and many representative artists have appeared in the long-term inheritance process. As an outstanding representative of folk music culture in the middle and lower reaches of Huaihe River, Wuhe folk songs have important research value of regional culture and folk art. At present, impacted by the tide of market economy, people's values have changed a lot, and many folk arts, including folk songs, are struggling. So far, only a few of the old artists of Wuhe folk songs are still alive, all of them are over 80 years old. This distinctive folk art has few successors and is on the verge of extinction, so it is urgent to rescue and protect it.
