Introduction to the custom of loading mud fish
Applicant: Doumen District, Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province
Loading mud fish is a traditional skill with local characteristics in Qianwu Town, Doumen District, Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province. It originated in the thirtieth year of Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1765), and flourished in Hushan village, Lishan village, Mashan village, Wangshan village, dahaihuan village and Shigou village, with a history of more than 240 years.
Qianwu Town, Doumen district is located in the west of Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province, bordering on the South China Sea, belonging to the coastal big Shatian area. It is rich in mud fish, sand shrimp, green crab and other aquatic products. For more than 600 years, it has been known as the "land of fish and rice" on the West Bank of the Pearl River Estuary. In the southwest of the mudflat, there is Huangmao sea area, where the salinity is only 3 ‰. It is a typical low salinity area. The mudflat here covers an area of more than 30000 mu, where a large number of algae grow and the humus is rich, providing a unique and essential water quality condition and food source for the growth of mud fish.
In the fourteenth volume of Xiangshan county annals published in the 12th year of Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty, it is recorded that "catarrhea fish is a field fish, a flower fish and a seven star fish. It's gray and black, three or four inches long, and it has flower spots. It's tender and delicious. It can be used as soup. " Because the color of the flower fish is similar to the soil, the villagers used to call it mud fish.
The technique of loading mud fish mainly includes four main procedures: making fishing cage, making fishing basket, making mud board and catching mud fish. It has the characteristics of regionalism, originality, practicality and gender difference. This traditional skill has been handed down from generation to generation and is well-known to every family. It vividly records the development history of traditional skill in a region. It is of great significance to protect and inherit it.
