Brief introduction of South China Sea waterway
Applicant: Qionghai City, Hainan Province
"South China Sea waterway route" also has the names of "South China Sea waterway route", "South China Sea timing route needle position", "downwind profit", "marked with the East and North sea route book", "to the West and Nansha waterway book", which is the traditional folk knowledge of South China Sea fishermen to grasp the sea route.
"Geng" is the ancient unit of calculating voyage, one is equal to 60 Li; "Lu" refers to the route map of navigation; "bu" is the book. "Geng Lu book" is a manual copy of the navigation route map. "Geng Lu Zhuan" refers to the oral navigation route experience. The extant manuscript Geng Lu Bu was produced in the late Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. It became mature in the middle of the 19th century and has been handed down from generation to generation.
The South China sea passage is a "secret book" compiled and used by fishermen in Hainan Island. It is a necessary nautical chart for every captain. So far, there are more than 10 kinds of "more road books", which record fishermen from Wenchang port of Hainan Island, or Qionghai harbour, and Xisha, Nansha, the Zhongsha Islands and Southeast Asian countries.
The South China Sea waterway is the crystallization of ancient Hainan fishermen's navigation knowledge, which has been handed down in oral and written form, and is still used by Qionghai fishermen. The Zhongsha Islands are the historical witnesses of ancient Qionghai people discovering and developing Xisha, Nansha and Zhongsha Islands. They are strong evidence that Xisha, Nansha and the Zhongsha Islands are ancient territorial waters of China. They have precious historical value for studying the history of overseas Chinese, foreign trade, navigation history and the development history of the South China Sea.
