Introduction to multi part folk song (chaoerdao abagachaoer)
Applicant: Abaga banner, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region
Chaoerdao is an ancient and unique singing form of Mongolian multi voice folk songs. The traditional chaoerdao is composed of two parts: the long part and the upper part and the lower part of chaoerdao. Women also participated in the later development of chaoerdao. Singers use their voice to produce different sounds and timbres, adjust their mouth shape, and chest resonance to produce the wonderful harmony effect of two tones of the same degree and 8 degrees. Abagachaoer is what we usually call chaoerdao.
The content of chaoerdaoqu is solemn, the meaning is simple, and the philosophy is profound. It is not allowed to sing in ordinary occasions such as family and friends gathering in life, nor mixed with love songs and satirical songs. It can only be sung in solemn occasions such as state funeral, Oboo sacrifice, promotion of princes and nobles, or grand mass gatherings. Singers must dress neatly, Mongolian men wear all kinds of accessories (such as Mongolian knife, fire sickle, etc.), stand in front of the chairman of the party or solemnly sing in the middle of the yurt. Chaoerdao's repertoire has a strict sequence. For example, in the state etiquette, we must first sing "Er RI te Cha Gan", then sing "that day Mo Tu man Du Hu", and finally end with "Lord Genghis Khan". The main repertoire circulated in Abaga banner are "erritechagan", "alaten arula", "handlehai", "Lord Genghis Khan", "cheburi saihanhori" and so on. At present, this ancient singing art is gradually reviving from the decline.
